Multiple Home Resorts?

I've been lurking the boards recently since my husband and I are seriously considering buying DVC and I've noticed many people have points at multiple resorts. Can someone please explain to me how that works?

Can you combine the points? Can you book at 11 months for both resorts combining points? Does it work out better than having all of your points at one resort?

Any info would be helpful! Thanks in advance.

Home resort points are good at their home resort at 11 months and any DVC resort at 7.

You buy at a home resort because you love it there and you want a 99% guarantee that you will get the room size and category that you want.

You can buy 2 home resorts and book each at 11 months or book one this vacation and the other next vacation.

We own at two resorts, AKV and BLT. We bank and or borrow to make our reservations. That way we can stay at the BLT one year and at the AKV the next year.

Yes, at seven months, you can combine points.

you can - but especially at BLT - you would probably get a lake view at 7 months - standard and MK view might be gone.

I have small points at VWL and BWV - because love BLT the best. BWV is usefully for F&G and F&W - so mostly use it for those times.

VWL is generally used in Dec - or go with those points for another place.

Thanks, Everyone! This makes sense to me now.

For now I think we will keep searching for 200ish points at BLT (resale) but I can see how adding later on at a different resort could be nice.
