When we took a DVC tour a couple of weeks ago, our guide said that the first place you buy your points at is considered your "home" resort and therefore you have the 11-month booking advantage. I questioned if we bought points at another DVC resort would we have an 11-month booking advantage there as well and he said "no, only your home resort (first bought) can have the booking advantage. OK, fine.

I've been faithfully reading these wonderful boards and I've heard people comment how they own at BWV and VB (just an example) and have the 11-month booking advantage at both. :confused3 Please clarify for me??

You are correct. If you own 150 points at OKW and 150 points at VWL, you have a home (11 month) advantage at each of those resorts. But you can't combine your points to book a 300 point reservation at VWL at 11 months.

Maybe he misunderstood your question? Because by doing an addon at another resort (for instance our "first" purchase was VWL with 150 pts. and last year we added 120 SSR points) we now have home resort advantage at two resorts. By banking and borrowing, home resort advantage can work really well for you if you travel during peak times (Christmas week for example). We've never really had a problem because we tend to travel during off times. As a matter of fact I am going to make a ressie today for VWL at about 10 1/2 months for late 1/07 for a 2 bdrm and a studio by using current points and borrowed points in order to take advantage of the window. Normally I wouldn't make the ressie this soon, but, everyone in our party really wants to stay at VWL for this trip so I don't want to take the chance we won't get all our dates. So, yes you do get home resort advantage at whichever resort you own. However, keep in mind if you only addon 25 or 50 pts. it won't give you a huge advantage if you need any accomodations larger than a studio because 25 pts would only give you 75 by creatively banking last year, current use year, and borrowing next year. For 75 you would only get a few days to book at 11 month window.

This is correct. Either your guide misunderstoood your question or he/she is not as well-versed in all the particulars of the DVC as we are!!!!!!!
