Multiple Contract Use Year Question

We are looking at adding BWV points. Our current use year at BLT is Aug. I have read that it is difficult to manage multiple use year contracts. Given that this would only be two contracts...I'd like to hear from peopel that manage multiple use year contracts and just what problems they run into. I am wondering if a couple of months either way (June to Nov.) would be better than a Feb. use year or would that matter at all?

I ask because I'll have to find what I am looking for with the exact use year and that may prove much more difficult than just buying the right points for the right price and the right resort.

Also, my significant other is very very handy managing things. She is terrific !!

it's just a hassle. if you are organized and stay on top of banking windows and transfers or whatever, then take a good deal if you find one.

but if you buy a contract with the same UY month and it's titled the same, it can be combined under one membership which will operate much more seamlessly.

if you have 2 memberships, you would need to transfer pts between the 2 contracts in order to mix pts to book a single night stay. but you can book 3 nights with one contract and 4 nights with the other and ask MS to link the reservations in hopes that you would not have to change villas (but i believe you would need to go check out and back in.)

(and just to be clear, under no circumstances can BWV pts be combined with BLT pts prior to the 7 month window.)

Well.... I have fallen victim to two different home resorts and two different use years and so far I haven't seen any problems but we have only been members for two years now.

We owned 100 points, Dec UY at BWV and added 55 points, June UY at SSR because of a loaded contract at a very good price.

We only need to book a studio for DW and I so we don't need any more points than this.

We figure to use the BWV points every year and the SSR every two years for our stays.

Time will tell, but I'm thinking we have made a great decision based on our needs.

Good luck with your decision. :thumbsup2

I have 3 different UY's...so far no problems. FYI, you can transfer points between your different contracts without forfeiting the once a year transfer rule. That rule only applys if you transfer out to another owner.:goodvibes

...We have two contracts with two UY's. It's not very hard to manage at all, and it sounds like you have an organized person there to handle it! :)

BWV Dreamin....3 UY's would probably be pushing my organization skills! Hats off to you! :thumbsup2

We have two master contracts - one smaller one with one resort, the other larger with two different resorts (but still one matches the smaller one). When I wanted to book a GV at OKW for last summer, I had to do some creative work to get the points arranged correctly for a six night stay with one contract and a one night stay with the other. I had to transfer some of the points from the smaller contract to get enough to complete the six night stay. I couldn't transfer all the points from the smaller because I had to borrow points to make the one night. And you cannot borrow transferred points.

So when the CM transferred the points, he transferred the entire current year points from the smaller contract to the larger contract. After he told me what he had done, I had to correct him because he didn't do the transfer correctly. I only wanted about 23 points transferred not all 50. So he had to get a supervisor to correct the mistake. Then I had to make the six night stay and wait six more days to make the last night with the separate contract (the remaining current year points and the next year borrowed points). I also had to time it to make a higher point Friday night stay for the last night because I thought it would be easier to make than the lower night.

With two different UYs you have two banking deadlines that you have to watch.

Hmmmm.... What I was thinking is that.... Buying enough points for the BWV contract to exist on its own would make both contracts easier to manage. However, I know that my own creativity would make me look at getting the most bang for my buck and I'd be banking an borrowing with the best of em'. LOL :)

I will do my best to find something with my Aug. use year but I doubt I'll find the perfect contract so we'll have to be a bit flexible erring on the side of more points. LOL We really like BWV an considered that along with BLT. I would have been happy owning either one. The BWV is a great location for us.

Thanks for sharing so quickly.

We have both a Feb and Aug use year. The good part is that we can choose which use year to book from without fear of canceling a vacation that is outside the banking window. Keeping track of the banking deadlines really isn't a problem - this past year we even got e-mail reminders from DVC!

We just purchased BWV points in the summer with a different UY. We decided that we could deal with it because we ended up adding on 150 points instead of the original 100 we wanted.

This way, we could use each contract as its own membership. So far, it is working out okay.

We have two UY because we couldn't find a contract we wanted for our small home resort and the size we wanted in our UY, even though I think its fairly common. So we bought the add-on, and we're happy with it. I like the idea of being able to do two transfers in or one in one out, though I haven't used that yet. Mostly we make reservations with the points we have in each contract and link them together. It works fine for us (I'm also kind of organization-happy ... librarian, go figure).

(On our Aulani trip last weekend we got a bonus T&T on a 2 night stay since I guess mousekeeping couldn't tell it was a linked reservation. :laughing:I won't be expecting that to happen ever again, but it was an unexpected perk!)

2 UY is no big deal. We have 2 and will try to buy a resale add-on soon with the same UY that we currently have on our BWV contract. If we can't find what we're looking for though we would consider a third UY.
