Friends of ours recently returned from a Disney vacation. They bought the mugs at a resort. When she was filling it with coffee she was told by a cast member that she could not get coffee with the mugs. She would have to buy a coffee cup. We were there last summer, and plan on going again this coming July 4th week and want to know if this is true. We always have been able to get coffee in the mugs.
Thanks for any input or information

Every source I can find says you can get coffee in the mugs. I think the CM was misinformed. Here's one source:

http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/disney-refillable-mugs/
But there are dozens of others. I'd say get the mug and if a CM claims you can't put coffee in there, get a manager. If the manager says you can't put coffee in there, ask to see that policy in writing, and reference one of the online sources that say you can. My guess is the CM will leave you alone when you ask to see a manager.

You can definitely get coffee in them. I used mine for coffee on my last 2 trips and no one said anything.

Thank you very much. The rate Disney is changing things I had to wonder......

What resort was she at? That's crazy... We have always filled our mugs with whatever we want, as it should be... I would have asked for a manager.

I’ve gone on 3 trips since August 2018 with another coming up in August and I have filled my mug many times with coffee. I don’t see why you can’t.

ANY beverage at a Beverage Station or Beverage Island is free with the Mugs.

VERY ill-informed CM.

My guess is it was a REAL new CM,possibly a DCP just getting started who wasn't fully "up to speed" yet.

They possibly had somehow gotten confused because the Coffee urns are not RFID and anyone can just walk up and get Coffee without paying,so they had probably been told to make sure everyone who gets Coffee has a Mug OR a paid-for Cup and they just forgot the Mug part.

I've been getting coffee in mine since the refillable mugs came into being and have never been stopped or questioned.

I get coffee every morning and have for the past 6 years. I have never encountered an issue. The CM was misinformed.

No. Pointless. Except www.disneyworld.com, all online sources are UNofficial. All that matters is Disney's actual policy.

But is Disney's actual policy stated on their website? If not, then one would think a policy stating 'no coffee in the refillable mugs' would have to be written down somewhere. If it's on the website - I couldn't find it - then yeah, the OP should refer to the website.

Ask ANY Manager of ANY Resort Food Court at WDW if Coffee is included with the Mugs and they will look at you like "Well,of course!".

One misinformed CM-first report I have EVER seen of this and I expect it is also the last.

I don't know if it's posted on the official website. I just meant "referencing one of the online sources" is pointless because, with the exception of https://disneyworld.disney.go.com, none of the sources is official. Not even, ultimately, the Disney Moms Panel.

And sometimes Disney’s website is wrong too!
I actually used my old mug to get coffee at Pop every morning because I didn’t want my new mug to have that coffee taste that you can’t wash out. I would bring my new mug with me when I filled my old mug in case anyone said anything but no one ever did and eventually I quit bringing it with me.

Strange, my dad did coffee all the time last year.

This is what it is..... A lot of people will bring old mugs to get coffee I have seen people use very old mugs as the coffee was not RFID.. Is it possible they are now using RFID on the coffee at some resorts maybe all? and they were trying to use on older non activated mug.

Great point-the CM may have thought the Mugs were from a previous trip.

And coffee, hot chocolate and tea are still not RFID at any Resorts to my knowledge and probably never will be if I had to guess.

You can get coffee, hot chocolate, or tea. You can get the tea bags by the registers and they will give them to you for free if you have a mug. This cast member does not know what they are talking about.
