Muenster cheese….

To make chicken parmigiana??? Went to an Italian restaurant and the chicken parm was made with Muenster, muenster only. While it was good, it was not chicken parm to me, I need my mozzarella! Anyone else have this, or any other odd cheese for chicken parm? I have heard of provolone on parm but still want my mozzarell.
....I love muenster as much as the next person [especially in a grilled cheese sandwich], but EWWWWW. Mozzarella or nuttin'!

I also happen to love Muenster Cheese and whenever I go to the store I always buy two Muenster Cheeses because my mom and I like to share it. I also like Colby Jack cheese but I like Muenster Cheese by itself too

Exactly.

Maybe their cheese delivery was late, and that's all they had left??
Supposedly:

Veal (or chicken) scallops are pounded thin, quickly sautéed, then layered with The Palm's excellent marinara sauce and topped with the king of cheeses, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and a generous layer of Muenster cheese that melts like a dream. It's classic, and it's just plain good.

Let me preface this by saying that muenster is in my top 3 of favorite cheeses...even with all of the artisan and fancy stuff. I can't even keep it in the house because I have zero control when it comes to muenster. That being said, it doesn't belong on chicken parm. I don't think you can even fairly call it parmigiana since the very name indicates it should involve parmigiana cheese. Granted, I know in Italian, it's really just referring to being of the Parma region of the country, but I sincerely doubt that the people of Parma would be using muenster. The irony, of course, is that Parma is in the north and these parm based dishes are southern Italian in origins...and they're definitely not using muenster. Muenster is supposedly an American creation with Alsatian (semi-Germanic) roots.

OK...now that I've gone through cheese history, I'd like to run out to the store and get some muenster!

Actually, that is how this restaurant serves their parm. 😳
We were talking to the waiter and he said it’s their top seller. I can say that I wouldn’t order it again. I like Muenster but not on parm.

Chicken parmesan is more of an American Italian invention based on somewhat similar Italian dishes using eggplant.
Those dishes use Parmesan cheese, but lots of arguing over where it originated

Lots of dishes we think of as Italian are Italian American.

Are you sure it wasn't just bad cheese because Munster is an odd choice, or did you order it on purpose that way?

If you got it on purpose did you lose a bet or something?😉

From the menu:
Chicken Parmigiana - Specialty of the House - Chicken cutlet breaded in our handmade breadcrumbs, pan-seared then topped with muenster cheese and our original tomato sauce served with a side of spaghetti

I didn’t read the description when I ordered this. I went on a recommendation from a neighbor, which was a mistake…lol.
