does this sound right? I know I'm outside MY 7 month window, but I called DVC and asked them what the availability looked like right now for a trip next year. Meaning, if it's already booked, then I'd like to consider other options (and yes, I know there can be cancellations)

I wanted to know about Friday-Sun, July 5,6,7, and possibly Monday July 8.

She said she couldn't even tell me because it wasn't my home resort. Yeah, I know that, and I know I can't BOOK till 7 months out.

Sound odd to anyone else? Anyone who does own there willing to look it up for me online?

Should I just try to pay points and stay at one of the other hotels? Is there a huge difference between the hotels and the studio? (mini kitchen?)

Thanks!

That is the way it has been for at least a year now - maybe longer. If it's not your home resort you cannot find out what the availability is prior to the 7 month mark.

I'd just wait until the 7 month mark and see what happens. In my experience the hotels have availability to trade in to far past that point in time.

we stayed at Disneyland Hotel a couple nights. rooms were nice & did have a nice view! we saw fireworks from our room. you get a mini fridge. DTD is literally at base of the hotel, so steps away. once there, you can walk or pick up monorail into Disneyland. also daily maid service offered, unlike GCV. you will get the extra magic hours just the same. no worries. GVV is beautiful, but studio v. the rooms at Disneyland Hotel were ok with us too:thumbsup2

While I know you would like the information, your 7-month window doesn't open for than more than three months. The availability can and will change drastically in that time. There is no point in checking now as it won't be the same when you can book. Once your window opens you can see what is available and make alternate arrangements, if necessary.

Also, if MS allowed this they would be inundated with calls...all for information that will not be the same when booking windows open. It is just wasted time for the MS agents and, since we pay the cost of MS, I am glad they do not allow it.

It's against the rules of this forum to ask others to check for availability for you.

That is DVC's policy. To be blunt, checking availability for time periods which cannot even be booked yet is a waste of MS advisors' time. Availability can change by the moment and could be vastly different once that 7 month window actually arrives.

I realize there is some comfort factor involved in getting an answer. On some occasions, being informed that rooms are booked will allow the member to consider alternate arrangements. (Although even that is of dubious value since availability can easily open up at 7 months as members start shuffling to other resorts.)

But overall, consider all of the wasted time if hundreds-of-thousands of members were constantly calling to inquire regarding periods they cannot even book yet. DVC is right to discourage the practice, IMO.

ok, yes, I understand, thanks for all the replies.

I'm going to keep my fingers crossed I can use my points at exactly 7 months! Due to other plans, I'm actually looking for some weekend time anyway, and I know a lot of people like the Sun-Thurs time frame, so maybe I'll be ok anyway.

Thanks again, also didn't mean to break any dis rules.

Just like when you try to check availability online between 11 and 7 months - you only have access to resorts where you own points. When you call MS during that same time period, when they open up your account, they can only see availability at resorts where you own points. When I call in, they can see what villas are available for the 4 resorts that I own. Past the 7 month window, MS can see all availability at all resorts.
