MS Called Me Regarding Kidani Counter Service

We just got back from a great stay there last week. I just sent and email over to MS about the lack of quick service dining options. Another thing that I think may be a problem over time is the pool area. It was great, but on the smaller side. I don't know how it will be able to accommodate everyone when the hotel is operating at full capacity.

Just sent an email also. I have two DS's ...19 and 20... who would be very disappointed if they couldn't grab a burger, pizza or fried chicken when hunger strikes! No counter service option is a "no go" with them.

Just sent an email suggesting a CS with simple hot meal items like soups, burgers, fries, bbq chicken and pizza as well as salads and fresh fruit. Then I remembered people's complaints about pizza on Disney property? Maybe they would do African flatbreads instead of pizza anyway...

I don't know how you guys feel, but I'm wishing they would duplicate Mara's and plop it down somewhere into Kidani. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Great idea !

Maybe with a little more comfortable seating area and chairs/booths though! Plus it Mara was a little dark if I remember correctly. But I definately loved their food choices and presentation!

No doubt, if DVC did clone Mara's and put it at Kidani, we'd hear the usual chorus of complaints that Disney's menus and restaurants are becoming homogenized, with nothing unique or unusual anymore. Yet here is some evidence that people do want some degree of homogenization: many want to get burgers and fries and chicken fingers and salads everywhere. Is there a middle ground? While I like to have some standard menu items available in most places, I also like to have some speciality items as well. Can Disney do that without straining food procurement and preparation budgets? :confused3

Someone just called from the DVC Member Satisfaction I believe and I missed their call. I called back and left a message.

And there's always takeout from Beaches and Cream.

B&C doesn't have food takeout - ice cream and drinks only. (They used to allow takeout food but did away with that.)

Just got the call back again.

He basically said that they are taking members feedback, polls and reporting to their leaders. He mentioned that there is Mara and a limited menu by the Kidani pool. He was very nice and just wanted to let me know that they are aware of this and will pass it on more or less.

I really appreciated the call back.

Yup, me too. She didn't say much, just thank you for the feedback and we'll be sure to pass it along. I hope they do and I hope they listen. :thumbsup2

I'm not sure how much the homogenization is directed toward QS. I mean with a few exceptions, most CS IS pretty much homogenized. It would make more sense though to have something different, so people could go to either.

Table service is where the homegenization is a real tragedy.

We visited the BLT model last week while staying at SSR on developer points. The DVC salesperson said that everyone is requesting CS at Kidani... even the CM's who stayed there during the opening said it... I have to say I'm cautiously optimistic for you all!!!!! good luck :thumbsup2

And I agree about the type of food... we were a bit stunned last week when we promised the kids burgers after a swim... and the SSR CS had "burger pizza" and some other slightly odd stuff... hmmm. Needless to say, the kids were not thrilled... but, hey, I liked it... :rotfl2:

(And they certainly got their fill of burgers throughout the week!!, it was just that first night they weren't thrilled.. ah kids!!)

Agree that the CS choices at SSR were disappointing. Just got back from a stay a couple weeks ago at SSR, my son ended up eating PBJ because the kids menu was so limited. My DW was sick of flatbread pizza by the end of the week. Looking forward to having a 1 bedroom at our next trip to be able to make meals ourselves.

I also sent an email and received a call today from Joy from the DVC satisfaction team. I told her that Kidani needs more offerings for lunch and recommended expanding the menu at the pool bar and include it with the dining plan. She also said she will pass the info. along. I feel very confident if more members let DVC know how we feel about this they will do something. Hopefully before we go back next year:)

As a BCV owner, I wish we had some input into their counter service when they renovated the Marketplace. So before Kidani adds one, I strongly suggest that AKL owners ask for exactly what they want, for example, burgers, chicken fingers etc. I am not exactly thrilled with what BCV came up with, cold sandwiches and no burger or chick. finger type option. So whatever you do in your emails, ask for exactly what you want and not just that you "want counter service".:thumbsup2
Good point. There's a good deal of difference between the Beach Club Marketplace and SSR's Artist's Pallet.

Wow, I'm so surprised. We thought the SSR counter service was fantastic when we were there last year. I don't think any of us ever noticed that they didn't have burgers! I really enjoyed the daily specials at Artist's Palette. Are they still offering those?
