I'm going to WDW next month and have am planning on making a Mr. Potato head in Downtown Disney. Has anyone done this before? If so was it a good sized box you cram the pieces in? Is one location better to make him than the other (DD v.s MK). Do you suggest buying the head before? or is there enough room for a head & a good amount of accesories in one box.

Also are the heads down there any different? (stamped with wdw, or something making it authentic) if so can they be bought out of the box to save room? for what price?

Thanks a bunch (I know it's a lot)

I'm going to WDW next month and have a day set aside to make a Mr. Potato head in Downtown Disney. Has anyone done this before? If so was it a good sized box you cram the pieces in? Is one location better to make him than the other (DD v.s MK).

I have done this...don't know if you need to set aside a whole day for it!

The box isn't all that big and you have to fit the Mr Potato Head body into, but the body is hollow and it opens, so you can fit pieces into the body itself! I had my box STUFFED. The lid of the box kind of bowed out, but I got it closed, so I was okay. I also got a couple of the pre-assembled sets to go with mine. If I knew I wanted a whole "outfit" I just bought the packaged version seperate from my box. I got the Darth Vader package and the Tinkerbell package. Shoes/bottoms take up the most room in the box, I got a ton of eyes and smaller pieces, but I think I only managed to get 2 shoes in there. For most of the shoes/bottoms, you can fit pieces into the concaved top where the body goes. You have to be a little creative, but you can fit a good amount of pieces in the box.

We have done it at Downtown Disney. The box is a good size to cram a lot of stuff in. Do not put a patato in it though. It will take up a lot of space. The pieces will fit into a reg. patato head. Buy one at Target before you leave or when you get home. It is all about packing it in. Putting little pieces into bigger ones then into the box.

I did it! They are so much fun!

we have boxes full of mr potato head and all the parts - used to create a "seasonal" mr potato head (christmas, birthdays, etc) :goodvibes

When we were at the DTD toy store, they also sold a large plastic container with a handle that was roughly in the shape of a larger Mr. Potato head that had a body and many pieces including hands for holding baloons for what seemed to be a very reasonable price. We wound up buying 3 of those for our DGC. As DGP we were too overwhelmed with the choices of the individual pieces. When our DGC are with us the next time, we'll let THEM pick out what they would like!

Bobbi:)

Yup just make sure if you get a body to take it out of the box and stuff as many parts inside of the body too.

i had to especially reply to princessbride. I LOVE LOVE LOVED your pictures! they were adorable!! :goodvibes

Congratulations btw!! your Mr. & Mrs. Potato heads were too cute! :rotfl:

Thanks everyone.

We've done it too. As OP said don't buy the potato there. I got one from Kaybee for like $5. Also get arms - They hold the special Disney stuff. Standard arms don't.

My DH can cram more stuff into those boxes than anyone we've ever seen, I think it's a contest with him! We bring him the pieces and he sits on the floor trying to fit it all in like puzzle :goodvibes Don't buy the head there, it's a waste of space.

Here's a tip I found handy - if you pick out the suitcase, open it up and stick a couple of ears in there!

We went there in January & DH & I managed to cram enough stuff into the head and the box to make 4-5 different Mr. Potato Heads. I picked out the different parts & DH started stuffing away. There's always more we wish we could have put in the box, but.............. :) We were actually doing it as a gag gift for my BIL's 50th birthday (January 2009). I took pictures of all the different Mr. Potato Head's we created & mailed them to my sis.............she think's it's going to be a hoot when he opens it. My gag gift to him this year was a Florida Gator Mr. Potato Head!! :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: OMG!! Sounds like such fun sitting on the floor and all... can't wait to do this next month. And my DH is pretty good at cramming things in ... although I don't think he'll sit on the floor to do it :lmao:

we just did this last week. the box seemed pretty small to me, but we managed to get alot of parts in it. we picked out all the pieces and then sat on the floor in the corner and divided them up into "must-haves" and "maybes". my DH fit in almost all the parts we had picked out. the box did not really close (he tore the top), so we went up to the checkout to ask if it was okay or if we needed to take out a few pieces. the CM actually went over to the bins and picked up a mickey ice cream and balloon asked if we had them and tossed them in the box. :goodvibes the kids have been playing with them since we got home. the best $20 we spent.

It seams to me that the 4 parks and dtd have differant peices on the racks.

At the MK the peices are in toon town bazaar near the railroad station.

Epcot in the disney store across from inoventions.

AK in the store you pass threw on the way out of Dinorsour.

DHS it in the store on the corner where you turn right to go to RRC and ToT.

The Disney store in NYC also has some more peices.

Buy the peices only at Disney get the Patoto heads at home(Target Wal-mart or kay-bee)

also there are plenty for sale on E-bay. you can also build your shopping list from what you see on e-bay

http://search.ebay.com/search/searc...trt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=32&fsoo=2

Don't forget about the STAR WARS potato heads at the Star tours shop. also can be found at walmart

Is there a list of parts that are available? I got one back in 06 and I'd like to see if there are any new parts that I don't have.

TIA

I don't think there is a list. we took a photo of all of our peices before we went and filled the boxs with parts we didn't have. we also made a wish list off the peices on e-bay
