just a quick bit of info on a scam in some petrol stations on the 192,a woman comes up to you distressed saying she needs money as she needs to get home and is stranded,SHE DOES NOT.i found her happily working in the ponderosa restaurant yesterday:rotfl2: what sort of luck is that,i think she realised i had seen her and she darted round the back.my missus gave her $3 SUCKER! just thought i would tell anyone going that way while i remember.crowds not to bad last 10 days so its all good,i have a few tales to tell when i get back but lets just hope we get back first:rotfl2: its a bit hairy these last 10 days.bye for nowpixiedust:

Looking forward to hearing your 'tales', talk about leaving things on a cliffhanger.:rotfl:

well done on spotting her the scammer! its no wonder people are being put off going!
did you get a pic of her on your phone? (or at least pretend to)

Glad it's not just me the con artists pick on then :)

Twice I've been conned like this .... once in New York when a well-dressed man came up to me in Starbucks and gave me a sob story about needing money for gas to get home, and the other time was at a Wal-Mart car park in Las Vegas when a respectable-looking woman begged for money to ' ... feed her kids'.

Neither time did I really believe them (and said so) but like your wife, gave them small amounts .... just in case! Yep, multiply that by the number of people who do that and it probably beats working for a living.

Never had it happen to me in Florida though. Thanks for the warning. Hope the rest of your trip is great :thumbsup2

Thanks for checking in :thumbsup2 . Hope you're all enjoying yourselves and that everything's living up to your expectations.

We had something similar last year at a gas station on the US27. A woman said she was stranded after coming to Orlando for a relative's funeral. She needed money to fill her car up, and get back home because her kids were going to be taken away from her and she was about to be evicted as well, but was prepared to sell her very expensive watch to us for $20. We said no!

The trouble is that when you are on holiday and in a good mood, you are more relaxed and could be taken in more easily.

Just goes to show you can never be too careful.

Also watch out for the 'My wife is in labour and our car is stranded just up the highway because we ran out of gas. Can you give me some money...blah blah blah....' :sad2:

And those roadside people saying 'Will work for food'....try offering them a job before you hand them your cash and you'll see how quickly they move on.

They do it here too. It has really spoiled me for anyone who has real problems because they're getting NOTHING.
