Moxie soda

Yesterday I posted a question about things you like to collect, and I mentioned that when I was younger my brother and I used to collect soda cans. One of the cans we collected was called Moxie. I was wondering if anybody else was familiar with this drink. In my opinion it was one of the most disgusting drinks ever made (it reminded me of that bitter coke product from Italy - different taste but same result). Here is a picture to help jog your memory if you think you might have seen it before:

In fact, about the only thing more disgusting than Moxie was this:

That's right, they actually dared make a diet version of it as well. :woohoo:

Is anybody else familiar with this drink? And if so, do you like it?

My ex-husband loves it. I, however, think it's the most disgusting drink ever. Tastes like medicine.

Ick. Ick. Ick.

I lived in Maine, where the Moxie factory is. They have the audacity to have a Moxie Parade every year for this stuff :scared:

DH and I were in Maine last summer for vacation. We stopped at a blueberry festival and they had a Moxie stand. We bought one to try. OMG, it was so nasty. I can't believe people actually drink this as a refreshing beverage!

I live about ten minutes from the area that has the Moxie Parade each year....it is disgusting but the people there are very happy with the notarity......I thnk they even have a festival for the weekend....with a moxie princess.....

I love Moxie so does my DS. Its an aquired taste. Kind of like sasparilla. I think I spelled that right or hopefully close.

That stuff is VILE. It tastes *exactly* like Creomulsion Cough Syrup!!

Growing up, my mother very rarely bought soda. Once in a while, she'd buy Moxie because she liked it. So in order to get a swig of soda, I would drink it. It is definitely an acquired taste. Sort of like a cross between battery acid and Robitussin. And I have to admit, about once every year or two, I will buy a one-liter bottle. I'll have a glass or two of it, and then I have to pour it down the drain because my taste buds just can't take any more!

We like the Coke from Italy :rotfl:

I like sassparilla!

:scared1: Yikes! Moxie! :scared1:
For a split second, it does taste okay, kinda like root beer, then BAM! it goes all bitter & medicinal~

A few years ago, one of the kids in our youth group passed around a Moxie, out of 20 people of varying ages, absolutely no one liked it :rotfl2:
'Not liked' is far too gentle a term, perhaps 'resoundingly loathed it' suits better!

Two older gentlemen--81 & 68 yo-- I know actually like this soda. We are all in amazement of them.
I've even heard some of the youth kids say, "Hey look, Mr.___'s drinking Moxie!"

Moxie is an aquired taste, just like scotch. But I still have to have one every once in awhile. I guess it's living up here in Maine that does it.

Moxie is less of a soda and more of one of those old-timey "brain tonics" that travelling medicine men would hawk as a cure-all. My DH likes it (but he also loves mello yellow, mountain dew, celery soda, cheerwine and sweet tea blech!). He let me try it when we first started dating and I swore he was trying to poison me! Carbonated dirt...

To quote Ralphie Wiggum: "it tastes like BURNING..."
