I was thinking almost the same thing as you ammdc7, I would ghost the hard drive and take one with me and let the other go with the computer

We shipped the desktops with the moving company, and carried a laptop with.

The desktops were packed by the movers, and were in perfect shape when they arrived. (Scope of move: Truck to trainyard in Chicago, by train to the West Coast, then to a ship for the ocean voyage to Oahu, container was unloaded, moved to another barge, shipped to the Big Island, and trucked to the house. I think the whole thing took 4-6 weeks.)

But we did have a full container of our own things.
