Moving trucks/companies?

Wow, haven't done this in a while.

I'm planning on flying back to Boston, packing up my furniture, and moving it to Phoenix. Renting a UHaul truck (or Budget truck) will cost me $3500 for the stupid truck alone (not to mention gas, hotel, food, and the drive). Anyone know of other companies out there with cheaper rates?

Anyone know of reliable moving companies that'll move the furniture for me?

there are zillions of national moving companies out there.
we've used Allied and North American w/no problems.

United Van Lines is another big one. Mayflower too.

the local agent should be able to give you binding estimates.

When you compare the cost of renting a truck to hiring a mover don't forget that with the rental truck you have to load and unload yourself and with the moving company they provide the muscle... and insurance.

I would look into having a company pack and move you, especially across country like that. Get recomendations from people in your area, however, because your moving company is only as good as the local movers. We have generally had good luck with United, but we also know of several people that have had terrible times with them. Depending on how much stuff you have, you might find having a moving company take care of your stuff for you will be less expensive. Is there someone in Boston that you would trust to handle things on that end and then you wouldn't even need to fly back. If you go with a moving company, get replacement cost insurance. You won't be sorry.

We are going from Missouri to Texas and we cannot afford that either so we are renting a truck (with car carrier), hired some people to load truck and drive it there ourselves. We have hired people to unload at the other end.
