Moving trip to Summer - How hot is it?

So sorry, but on the bright side -next week is spring break for a lot of schools in the midwest/south. It would probably be crazy crowded- you might wind up with a better experience in the summer. Fireworks and Fantasmic run every day in the summer too.

We have been to DLR in June and July many times. We have also been to WDW in June several times. DLR is nothing like Orlando in June. The summer weather at DLR is not oppressive like the weather in Orlando. The mornings and evenings are usually nice and it can get hot for a while in the afternoon. Still it usually isn't muggy. DLR is SOOO much nicer than WDW in the summer months. I don't know if you plan any off days or sightseeing other places, but if you do, know that Mondays are usually the absolute most crowded days at DL and CA in the summer. Don't know why that is, but surprisingly Saturday and Sunday have usually been our least crowded days.

July 4th week is the best week of the year at DL
It is pleasantly UN crowded. We do a staycation every year at the Grand. I go every other week during the year too and July as a whole is my favorite month. It is FAR less crowded than mid March.

What is your maximum nightly budget for the hotel?

We would like to stay right at $300/ish a night for the room. Would love any suggestions! Kids are 10, 8 and 8 and we have all crammed into small rooms before and been just fine.

That's gonna be tough. I'll let others recommend places because I was gonna say the Courtyard Theme Park entrance, because the rooms are spacious and have bunk beds and an extra bathroom, but I think it's over your budget.

Yes, we looked here first, but it was over our budget.

So far we have looked at a Premium Room at Candy Cane Inn (we called them and they said it was 360 square feet, which is equivalent or larger than rooms we have booked in the past), and a Family Suite at Hyatt House that has a King Bed, two bunk beds and a pull-out sofa. Both of these are within our budget. Do you have experience with either?

No, sorry. We only stay on property at Disneyland for special occasions. We can literally drive home in 15 minutes as local passholders. My sisters have stayed at the Fairfield across the street and also at the Springhill Suites near the Hyatt House, and they liked both hotels.

I would check out the Desert Inn & Suites, when I did a quick search, they have a Parlour Suite for your dates for an average of $216.50/night. This room has 2 queen beds and a full size pull out couch.

For an average of $344/night you can get their C1 suite which has 2 rooms with 2 queens in each plus 1 1/2 bathrooms.

Thank you for the suggestion! Is it walkable?

Yes, it's very close! Much closer than Candy Cane or Hyatt House. It's literally right next to the crosswalk to go into DLR.

We also had 3 kids (the younger a set of twins, like you!) and it was one of our favorites because of the location and the extra room. It's not fancy, the breakfast isn't much, but it's right across the street and it's a suite.

One downside I will mention is that the front parlor room does not have its own AC vent, so if you close the connecting door, it can get pretty warm.

Here's a snip of Desert Inn and where it is in relation to getting into DLR.

Thank you! Did you have the Parlour Suite or the C1 suite? Did you find the beds comfortable?

We had the 'regular' suite (no extra 1/2 bath). Honestly, I'm not super picky about beds; the only thing I try to avoid for myself is a sofa bed ha ha. I'm pretty small so it's a lot easier for me to be comfortable. My dh is tall and a lot pickier about beds and he was fine with them. Of course, he may have been thinking the cost of staying on site was a greater pain than the Desert Inn bed. We usually stayed on site but sometimes that wasn't possible.

100% walkable, it is one of the two closest motels to the park entrance!

We've stayed there a few times, once in a C1 and the other two in their parlour suite.

Not the most comfortable beds but totally adequate.

I had no idea the week of the 4th was uncrowded. Why is it not popular like other holidays at the parks?

We stayed at the Desert Inn in a parlor suite in 2015, 2017, and 2018. Beds aren't the best but not the worst either. There's no AC in the living room with the pull out couch. There's just a fan that pushes air in from the bedroom portion. So you may want to leave the door open to keep front room cooler.

The negative for the Desert Inn might be the indoor pool. We've never used it but people seem to complain about it.

Also, it's just an older motel so do expect fancy.

Primarily because Disneyland is a locals park, many of them are passholders who are blocked out for the whole summer. A lot more people take their own vacations elsewhere that week, or go camping or to the beach. The beaches are NUTS on the week of the 4th.

You do see a MASSIVE number of people in the Esplanade for 4th fireworks because it's free admission to Downtown Disney and it's a fantastic way to see fireworks that night. Inside the parks, though, is amazing.

We did stay at GCH, so we went back to the hotel for a rest and some food, as well as AC. It was a great way to handle the heat, so I definitely recommend staying close enough to take that afternoon break.
This is very good advice! Having a hotel close by will really help when you need a break.

I agree. I will say that some people say the walk to certain hotels farther down on Harbor aren't that bad....for me...in the heat anything that isn't right across the street can be rough.

We always take a break after lunch and come back later in the day. Sometimes that walk to the hotel for break can be the most brutal because it's pretty much entirely in the sun. Last summer we were at Park Vue and I was so thankful to not have to walk any farther down the street. I remember years ago staying at what used to be called The Anaheim Plaza a little farther south and that walk seemed much worse even though on the map it isn't that much farther.

Walking farther down Harbor wasn't so bad when I was in decent shape and going without a child, but for us even walking back and forth with a toddler to the Courtyard on Harbor was a bit of a haul especially in the afternoon sun in late June.

We also stay close by so that we could take midday breaks for naps and pool time. Much rather cool off and relax during the hottest part of the day.

We are eyeing mid-to-late June to early July.

We have 3 kids - I don’t need anything super nice. Clean, safe, decent pool (don’t need a slide), and a room that sleeps 5 are the most important. We are fine with motel-style rooms that open to the outdoors. Secondary priorities are walkable (10-15 minutes) and free breakfast. I was eyeing Candy Cane Inn because it looks nice, sleeps 5 and has a breakfast, but I can’t tell if it’s a 10-15 minute walk, or further than that.
I would recommend the Desert Palms Hotel and Suites. We have stayed there a few times and have a stay booked with them for our trip in October. It is an older hotel but it has free breakfast, which saves a LOT of money each day. Also the room we usually book has 2 queens and then there is a step down to a pull out couch in an area that has a curtain to pull to separate. Also we got lucky and could see the fireworks from our window. The walk is easily 10-15 minutes. It’s reasonable and for the amount of time you spend in the room it’s perfect!
