We just relocated to the Atlanta are in June and my DH has received another promotion requiring us to move to Nashville.
Where is a reasonably priced safe place to live with a great middle school? We are trying to get $2000 per month or less for rent. Everyone has suggested Brentwood, but there is not much under $2K and even less that will allow pets. We have 2 full grown dogs (I happen to dislike dogs so it is not by my choice) that really limit where we can live. One is a German Shep which further limits our options. We can't buy b/c we have 2 previous properties that we still own that are rented out. I have been searching craigslist and mls for a week now and am getting really frustrated. Is there a good alternative to Brentwood? Please help! I am losing sleep and breaking out from the stress!:scared1: It doesn't help that I just did all of this in April when we were looking for a house in Atlanta!:headache:

It really depends on where the office is located, but Franklin would be another place to check. My wife was offered a position to relocate, we looked at Brentwood(too high), Franklin(too high/far), Spring Hill(too far), and Mt Juliet. We ultimately decided to stay in KY.

Wow, I'm sorry that you're having to re-locate again. I'm sure that's stressful. We live in Hermitage which is in the east part of Davidson County (Nashville). My son attends Dupont Tyler Middle school and is in his 2nd year there (6th grade). I've been pretty happy with it and actually am the PTO president this year. We like Hermitage and have lived there for 11 years.

If you want a school system other than Nashville Metro (which is probably not a bad idea, honestly), check out some places in Wilson County. -Mt. Juliet, Lebanon, Watertown. Those are further east of downtown Nashville, so depending on where your husband's office is, he may want a closer commute. However, you'll probably find some lower rent payments the further away from town you get. Sorry I don't have any specific suggestions on rental places. If I come across any, I'll definitely let you know.

Feel free to message me if you have any other questions. I'd be glad to help in any way I can!

If only we could stay here...:sad2:

He actually doesn't have an office, except in our house. He is in sales and will be covering the entire state. That is why we decided on Nashville, b/c it is rather central. I like to be in the middle of things, so to speak. So being close to "town" with shopping and grocery stores and restaurants w/in a few minutes drive is important. Are the places you listed pretty lively or rural?

Hermitage and Mt. Juliet are both close to pretty much any shopping places you would need. From where we live in Hermitage, all the stores I need are 5-10 minutes away. Lebanon & Watertown are a bit more rural, but not much. You could get where you needed to go in 15-20 minutes easily.

Hermitage and Mt Juliet are probably your best bets for the East side. If by 'town' you mean groceries etc that is fine. The only real mall in the area is in Franklin, unless you count Green Hills.

I can't tell you as much about schools, but I do know that there are affordable nice homes in Bellevue. It is southwest of downtown Nashville, and easy access to lots of commercial shops etc. Definitely less expensive of an area than Brentwood, and very close to several parks, including a large wooded park with trails.

I found a nice place near the Kroger marketplace in hermitage. Is that a good area? It is 4 miles from Kroger.

Hendersonville has EVERYTHING you need! The Streets of Indian Lake has great shopping. There are great schools and a hospital, and it's only 15 minutes to downtown. I love it here!

Just a thought....you might want to check out what school districts have year round school and have to wear uniforms. The county I live in we have year round school and are required to wear uniforms. We have been in school for three weeks.

Ooh, I would love year round school! What county are u in?

Representing Rutherford County here. :woohoo:

I agree with PP's -- Hermitage, Mt Juliet, Bellevue are nice. You may also check out Smyrna & Murfreesboro (in Rutherford County) too. The schools in this area are nice and both are close to shopping/grocery/banks/hospitals/colleges/YMCA/etc.

I would probably avoid Nashville/Davidson County area unless you were looking to do either a magnet school or private school for your children.

I'm sure you've probably found it already -- but you may be able to find more rentals on www.realtracs.com, under the rental section. Best of luck to you in finding a good area for your family!

My SIL lives in Franklin and has for over 20 years. She loves it there. Her daughter just moved into her neighborhood because of the school system there. Her oldest started school this year and she wanted him in that school system.

I live in Maury county and do not recommend the school district unless you are going to do a private school. In my opinion, Williamson and Rutherford county schools are the best. Avoid Metro/Davidson county schools.

Another person representing Rutherford county!!!!!!!:cool1:

Murfreesboro is a great place to live. Excellent schools, lots of shopping, great neighborhoods etc. I wouldn't live anywhere else.:banana::banana:

I have been using realtracs...thanks!:thumbsup2 Along with every other website in the world.:headache:
Mt Juliet has some serious bang for your buck compared to the Franklin/Brentwood areas I have been searching for the last week!

It is a pretty large suburb? I assume you feel very safe? My DH travels a lot, and I'm kind of a baby, so feeling safe is impt! I will check out the housing there. Thanks for the suggestion!

BTW- does it always snow in Nashville each year? I was born and raised in Charleston, until 2 mths ago, so snow was a once every 10 yrs kind of thing. Kind of excited if we will get it more often!:yay:

I don't know that area, but if you haven't already figured it out, you'll be way ahead financially here. No state income tax. No high fees to register your cars. I looked at relocating to Atlanta for a job once and it just wasn't worth the high cost. Only downside here is our high sales tax rates.

Murfreesboro is its own city, not really a suburb, about 45 min drive to Nashville. Definitely a good and less expensive place to live if distance doesn't matter. I know people who recently moved over there and love the area...just don't move in right next to the university.

As for snow, a few times in the winter but not many. I am from much farther north so it doesn't seem like much to me. Still a big deal here though as there are almost no snow plows and southerners don't know how to drive in snow. :rotfl:

I live north of Nashville and would also recommend the Hendersonville area. Lovely area and much more reasonable. We have lived in Tennessee for two years and have found the cost of living to be below even what we had in Kentucky. Sales tax is high, though.

I did not know that! Good news there for sure. No worries about the sales tax- Guess I will just have to do all my shopping in Disney. ;)
