hey all, i'm moving to fla, to work for disney, not a great job yet but hoping to move up later on....anyways i have been looking in the southwest area of orlando and the kissimmee area for apartments, i can't afford much, only around 550 a month for rent, but i dont want to end up in a bad neighborhood. i have looked at apartmentratings.com, but it seems every apartment that i find decent, gets bad reviews. can anyone help me out???? i am looking at apartments in the area between the florida mall and the mall at millenia....around s rio grande ave and a few others in the 32839 area....if anyone has any info please email me at kforbs126@hotmail.com or post i need any and all info...thanks,
kristin

The area you are looking at (North of the FL Mall) is not the best area. Chances are any reviews you read are not going to be good. Might I suggest you try some of the ones in the Lake Buena Vista area that are for restricted income to see if you will qualify. Either that or try and find a roommate or someon who is looking for a roommate to move in.

When my mom relocated there, she decided to NOT live near Disney and all that area, because it's packed with tourists, prices are higher for things, and the area is not good to live in. (she works for Disney too)

She moved about a 30 min drive from WDW, but is happy she did (still in Orlando) She likes that she's not in the middle of it all all the time, doesn't have to fight the tourist traffic, etc. Though it sounds like FUN to live right near WDW, it gets old after awhile and you want to live in a normal area with normal people. She can drive a quick and scenic 30 min to WDW anytime she needs the magic ;) Or to shop at those great places!

I wish I could remember where she ended up... by Dr Phillips... its a NICE area, her rent is higher than what you are looking for, but she got a brand new apt with garage in gated community. The area she is in is nicer and she feels safer... her zip is 32818, if that helps any. LOL.

Good luck in your search!

let me ask you kforbs126, how did you go about getting a job at Disney (i'm assuming you don't currently live in FL). Just curious b/c it might be a career move that is worth looking into for me.

thanks

ziggy i went down there and interviewed. if you call their job line, they will set up an interview for you but you have to go down there to interview. i do not live in fla....i'm just wanting to relocate because i can't find a job in my field in my area. just looking to start somewhere.....thanks for the info guys i'm really lookin into every option.

What about a garage apt. in Celebration? It may be more than $550/month, but it would be in a good area at least.

kforbs126, I'm sorry I can't help with apartment info. But may I ask about your interview process? Were you interviewing for a specific position that you knew was available? Or did you ask for an appointment, show them your resume, and see what they had to offer? Or some other scenario? Was it hard to actually get through to a human being on the job hotline? Also, when they offered you a job, how much time did they give you before you have to start work?

Thanks in advance, and all best wishes on your move and with your new job! :D

thanks for the info kristin. good luck with everything. maybe i'll see you down there some day!

The best thing to do is go and search the area in person...if you are already a CM you should be able to get a small booklet from the company just for CMs called "Donalds Deals"...it lists a lot of local Cast Member friendly companys, including discounts on apartemnts or applications for the apartments.

I would suggest an area like St. Cloud or Winter Haven.

I lived out near Winter Park after my CP, it was a nice area, the complex i was in was horrible, bu tnice area. I hated the long drive personally.

I second what someone said earlier, there are restricted income apartments near disney that are very nice if you qualify. Some right behind the MK.

Good luck PM me if you have any specific questions about the area, specific complexes or working for WDW...I'd love to help.

thanks guys for all your info and help i appreciate it....if any has any info on the restricted income housing near disney, can ya help me out???

thanks,
Kristin

Hi, kforbs! I hate to bother you, but could you back up to my earlier post where I had some questions about your interview process? If you have time to answer, I'd be very interested in hearing about it. Thanks, and good luck! :D

Hey,

Congrats on your upcoming move! I've been down here for a year and I love it(yes, even after Charley!)

We have a house now but when we first came down from NJ, I used www.apartmentguide.com to try to find some place nice to live. There are many places that will waive your security deposit because you will be a CM. They are usually in the area. I know that Disney has a booklet that shows offers like that. Anyway, just ask when you call about getting the apartment. I'm sure you can find a nice, one bedroom in the price range that you are looking for.

As far as apt ratings is concerned, just remember that if there are only a few comments in there, there are many people that live there just fine without issue. Its all perspective....

And no, I didn't come down to find my apartment, I looked on line and called, we packed up our stuff and here we are! :p

I so understand this stress. We moved here 3 weeks ago and it was very hard to find an apartment in a good area. I have kids and pets to worry about though.

If you can do it, I would wait till you get here to find a place. Then you can get a feel for the areas and see what you are comfortable with. Check out the Donald's Deals book and see what help you can get there.

I can pick up an apartment guide and list the resricted income places if you would like.

Maybe Steph can chime in here and give you some advice?
Stepharoonie where are you???????

hey guys thanks again for the info and all the help, i really appreciate it, i'm a bit nervous about the move, since i will be by myself and away from my family.....but i'm ready for the challenge....
