Moving sidewalks and grandparents

Hi all. Last month we managed to get my Dad and Grandmother into a Disney park. The first ride of the day was the Nemo ride, and the moving sidewalk was moving too quickly for my grandmother, and she fell, and injured her ribs, needing a wheelchair for the rest of the day.
Nobody in our group, including her, figured a moving sidewalk as a hazard.
Here's the tip- the rest of the day, we told the CM's when boarding, and they could slow down the sidewalk for her. It was the coolest thing I've ever seen! They pressed a remote control, and it conroled the speed of the loading!

I haven't been on this ride yet, but I HATE the moving sidewalks. I always feel like I'm going to fall!! I'll be careful now, thanks to your warning!

There are 2 attractions where they can't slow or stop the moving walkway - Peter Pan and Tomorrowland Transit Authority (the ramp going up to the 'station').
Generally to slow or stop the moving walkway, you need to board at the exit for those attractions. Someone using a wheelchair will be automatically routed to the exit for boarding (usually after waiting in the regular line until very close to the regular boarding area). Usually people using walkers and canes should also be routed to the exit to board, but someone with an 'invisible need' will need to get a Guest Assistance Card in order to use that boarding area. There is information about Guest Assistance Cards on the disABILITIES FAQs thread.

This is a link to a past thread on the disABILITIES Board about boarding rides with moving walkways.

OH! I'm so sorry this happened!
When we took DH's grandmother, we had him ride with her all the rides that had a moving sidewalk. That way he could help her on and off...

Thank you for this information!! My mom, DS's and I are going to see my grandparents the end of the month. I know my grandfather would have a hard time w/these now. He has parkinsons and has progressed a bit. Still able to get around, but not with the ease he use to!!
