Hey Guys,
I have a question that maybe someone will have some insight on. I'm staying at BCV in a studio 2/4-2/11 through a II trade. I noticed on Expedia today that BCV is pretty sold out that week, they only have a couple of nights with a studio free. OKW on the other hand has everything open that week. Do you think Member Services would let me move to a one bedroom at OKW if I payed the difference? Am I stupid for even thinking about it?

They will not let you move for an II exchange. What you could do is keep calling II to see if maybe a 1 BR comes up esp. at OKW or SSR but you'd have to pay another exchange fee. And if you've already paid the $95 resort services fee, you might have to pay that one again as well. a 1 BR for the week is worth an extra $135 or $230 for a week though.

I think I'll just stay with BCV, I really need to experience SAB and I've planned most of our dinners at Epcot expecting to be able to walk right over. The extra room would be nice, but there is always next time. I've got big trading power with a TS in downtown Charleston, I'll just start planning earlier.

I would stay at the Beach club. I have read so many great emails on the Beach at the resort. That is why is always is sold out. You can only use the Beach if you are staying at the Beach club. We will be going in June and can not wait.

Your message seems to suggest that you feel you have extraordinary trade power and can get what ever you want through II. That is not my info on Charleston other than possibly the June festival weeks. Good trade power but not over the top. Good luck.

Dean,
Obliviously you're not a history buff. We get a lot of visitors interested in the War of Northern Aggression, after all the first shot was fired here and we have the C.S.S Hunley open for tours. We also host the Renaissance Festival that Bill Clinton made famous, the Family Circle Cup, the Spoleto Festival, Southeastern Wildlife Festival, Davis Cup events, and on and on. Given that hotel occupancy stays at over 90% and that there are less than 50 units that can be traded through II that are actually in the historic district, I would say yes, my trading power is probably comparable or better than DVC. Renting a unit in cash would cost 350-500 a night during our high tourist season, just like Disney.

I'm very familiar with the 2 resorts there but not the yachts as much and I am familiar with Charleston in general. I feel you have greatly overestimated your trade power, but that's my opinion. But even if the demand were comparable, both resorts there suffer on the ratings side which is very important with II, less so with RCI.

I guess that when I started planning a trip for Feb. or March in early Nov. and had a choice between studios at OKW, SSR, DCV, BWV or 1brs at OKW or SSR that's normal for a run of the mill trade.

I started this tread because I was having 2nd thoughts about a studio and was wondering if I could move to a 1br at a less desirable resort that had room.
I did not expect to get a response from someone that knows EVERYTHING about II trading. Wow, Dean I am humbled, truly humbled. I'll be sure PM you next time I want to trade my week so I can get a true assessment of what's available.
