We've been on a few DCL already and always noticed the towels on the chairs with no one around them. Since we usually went to the pools very early on sea days and during time at ports, we've been ok with finding atleast 1 chair for 1 of us to sit and watch all our stuff.

Since we're doing the Eastern next time, with less port days, I'm concerned this towel thing might be a bigger problem. Although the towel chair saving thing is a pet peeve of mine, I'm not a confrontational person so I would really rather not deal with any problems with other guests.

Has anyone ever had a problem with someone else if you removed their towels from the chairs? Seriously, I would not move more than 1 towel, 2 atmost if we have everyone with us(group of 9), but I don't want to start a fight with someone over a pool chair!

If the towels are on the chair backs, they are put on early in the AM by the employees setting up the chairs.

If there is stuff on the chair and nobody sits in the chair for 15 or 20 minutes, I just move it to a dry area beside the chair.

There are not enough chairs to store stuff on, and the backs of the chairs clearly say that you should not do that.

I wish they would put up some type of cubbie holes somewhere for kids to put their stuff while they swim...

Here is a photo with only 5 paying guests on the ship (we stayed onboard)

Billinaz-
Do you have a photo editor? If so, would you please enlarge that? I can barely make out anything in that pic!
:rotfl2:

(just kidding with you ;) )

Funny, I was working on making it smaller.

Figures someone would see it before I got it done!

yes think this is a pet hate of people and is very annoying.

Thanks for mentioning this, and GREAT photo Billinaz. I have tried to post this many times. Yes, many times it is people, but more than often it is the employees who do this.:goodvibes

Thanks. I've seen the nice organized towels on the chairs by the CM's. :) I was actually refering to the towels thrown on the chairs, with maybe 1 shoe on each chair also, where it's more obvious someone is saving 5-6 chairs in a row.

I'm not looking to start something on our magical cruise but would like to have 1 chair for us to atleast take turns sitting on LOL

I moved stuff last week on the Eastern......it was about 9am, every chair was "reserved", and there wasn't another person out there! We were staying to swim, so I just moved stuff down. One guy came looking for his suntan lotion, that we never found, but other than that, no one said anything.

It's crazy! I would stick a navigator in my bag, plus each seat is clearly marked as "do not reserve", in case anyone said anything. No one did!

Well, I don't see a problem if someone just wants to take a quick dip in the pool or get a drink from the bar. But after 20-30 minutes, I think that chair is up for grabs. And if they leave the pool area, except for the restroom, it's fair game. In my opinion, a towel doesn't reserve a chair at all.

Welcome to the #1 or #2 biggest gripe of the DIS boards popcorn::
it's amazing how indignant people get when they return about 12:00 to find 2 of their 3 chairs gone ("Do you know how early I had to get up to save those?") I really don't like confrontations but if there are wet towels or a chair has been empty for 1/2 and hr ... sorry

Unfortunately, even if there were cubbies, people would still be selfish and hoard chairs.

I've been up early in the morning getting coffee only to see someone spreading out towels on loungers. I have also seen families use both 4 loungers filled with their stuff as they sat at one of the tables eating.

I have never really found the need to hang out by the pools. We have gone one day or maybe two in 3 cruises total. It is just crazy. We try to hit it on port days. My kids aren't really crowd people. My younger ones like the slide, but that is about it. It all looks like human soup to me.

I so agree!

We didn't really have a problem with this on our cruise but that was primarily because we didn't really swim a whole lot and when we did- it wasn't for really long periods of time. I think only once or twice (after embarkation afternoon ofcourse!) did they swim and mostly it was DH on one lounge chair just watching the kids go down the slide and such. It would be nice to have a place to put our stuff though- because one time I chastised him for using the chair next to him to put all the kids stuff and his stuff- and he was all like well where do you WANT ME TO PUT THEM? If I put their coverups and shoes on the ground they get soaking wet by everyone walking in between chairs and such. and he was right...
So you see, we didn't really need that other seat (except maybe for short periods of time when I sat with him or the kids came up to talk to him for a minute or two, or the rare times they got something to eat while near the pool) but there's a problem about where to put your stuff... cubby holes would be nice.

My parents stay at a beachside resort in Florida for two months every winter. For years and years, part of the ritual of the retirees who stay there is to go out at about six in the morning to reserve the chairs they may or may not sit in later in the day. I once saw a young family come down to the pool area and, finding ALL of the chairs reserved and not one person sitting in any of them, move things off of two chairs. The retirees, many of whom were sitting on their porches eating lunch, began swarming out and started chastising the young mother for moving people's towels. Management eventually came out and took the mother's side, but it was an ugly scene. All this beneath a BIG sign that clearly says, "Pool chairs may not be reserved with towels."

Gotta love people, huh?

Right now, though, in Ohio I have a different pet peeve to focus on: I can't stand it when strong, healthy people shovel their driveways, but don't shovel their sidewalks. An added insult to the neighborhood is when they then pile up the snow from the driveways right ON the sidewalks. Grrr...

Sounds like a great idea...but..I can still see the same selfish people stashing their stuff in cubbies all day while they roam the ship...leaving the people at the pools with no choice but to put their stuff on the deck and still end up with it soaking wet!

Honestly I would think people would do this less than leaving their items on chairs. I mean it's not like if it was in a cubby hole it would be saving a SEAT for them, and leaving it there all day would only be inviting someone to steal the stuff eventually. With no motivation to leave it there (ie: not saving themselves chairs), I doubt many people would leave them there all day.And the few that did- would that really outweigh the benefit of less chairs being 'saved' or used solely to keep stuff on them?

For what I'm paying for this cruise, if I see a chair occupied only by a towel for more than 15 minutes, it's mine. Believe that.

I would have no problem moving towels off the lounges if I did not see anybody sitting in. I would not even wait the 15 minutes. If all I see is a towel on a lounge and nobody is around, the chair/lounge is mine.

Talk at you later...

Norm

cubbies would be FANTASTIC!

We use one lounge chair for the 5 of us... and someone is on it pretty much the whole time! (esp now since my boy is potty trained and can swim!)
