I am moving this saturday (leaving Orlando and moving to West Palm Beach). Booked moving company over a month ago and they got deposit. Today I get voice mail from "sales manager" saying that person that gave me the quote was not qualified and they won't honor contract. Then I receive email stating the truck they were planning on using "broke down" and they were backing out so that I could find another moving company. They are going to refund my deposit, but now I'm scrambling to find new moving company. Contract stated I could not back out, but now they are backing out. Is there anything I could/should do?

I would contact the Atty General's Office as well as the better business bureau and file complaints. Personally I would be afraid to let them to move me. Hopefully if you call another mover and be honest and tell them of all the trouble you had with ABC then maybe they will fit you into their schedule.

Call PODS! They will deliver the POD into your driveway, you fill it with your furniture, put a lock on it, call them and they will come back and get it dropping off another in its place if you need it.
Works like a charm, and not that expensive to boot!

I just used a moving company in Orlando, DM me if you'd like their info. They are an agent for both United and Mayflower so they have some options on pricing and services.

Found company in Altomonte Springs that will move me for $50 more than other company (and no per hour charge, just a flat rate). Probably will turn out better for me anyway. Thanks for the advice everyone!:thumbsup2

Glad you were able to find someone on short notice. If you hadn't there is always small claims court. If you have a signed contract and have been relying on that, the moving company is liable for the excess caused by their backing out (nonperformance). In other words, if you had a contract for them to move you for $2,000, and the cheapest you could find at the last minute was $3,000, they would be liable for $1,000. Obviously, it's a lot of hassle to go to small claims court, but sometimes there's little choice.

Just make sure when making this kind of purchase to get everything in writing.
