We have a Camellia right outside our kitchen window that has gotten out of control. It is about 10' x 10' - is there a way to move it? It is approximately 20 years old, I hate the thought of killing it, but it has to be moved. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Flower & Garden forum MommieMommie! :)

I'm hoping that one of our Buds who has had some experience moving large shrubs can help you out, but until then, I did find some info and I'll look for more.

Transplanting

It is sometimes desirable or necessary to move plants from once location to another. The best time to move (transplant) deciduous plants is from late fall until late winter. Evergreens may be moved from October through March. When digging a plant to be moved, try to get as much of the root system as possible. Dig evergreens with a ball of earth so that you don't disturb the fine feeder roots. Deciduous plants are usually moved without soil on the roots. Remove one-third to one-half of the top of the plant to compensate for the roots that were lost at digging. Make this pruning so that you do not disturb the natural form of the tree.
