Movies that make you think

Not recent, but Mystic River really made me think. I read the book afterward and only had more questions and things to think about. Not so much because of a confusing plot-- more questions of morality. Lots of "why's."

The Truman Show really makes me think and become skeptical of everything.
I have to agree with Inception and the Butterfly effect as PP's have stated.

Salt made me think who's really a spy and who can be trusted I must say.

Spy Game.I've seen it several timesl, and every time I marvel at the nuances I uncover.

Sorry, I'm one of those oddballs that go to movies just to be entertained.
I resent any effort to try and send me a message.

That may also explain why I haven't seen any of the movies posters have mentioned.

I did see the new Harry Potter film, and Tangled in the past few weeks.

:thumbsup2 Let's be odd together, then, because I'm the same way. Odds are usually pretty good that I haven't seen a majority of Oscar nominated films. I go to be entertained and escape for a couple of hours.

That being said, I also think there is a difference between movies that make you think vs movies w/social meaning or message. Example of a social meaning movie is Schindler's List. Never seen the whole thing, but know enough about it from DW to know it's not something I'll watch.

An example of something that makes you think would be NBC's The Event. You had to pay attention, or think, as it bounced around in time and if you didn't catch the subtitle telling you when/where you were, you got lost.

The Prestige is also a great movie that makes you think. It was directed by the same guy that did both Momento and Inception.

We actually watched Inception because we loved his other stuff so much. :)

You know, I just could not get into The Event. I wanted to so bad, but I just couldn't seem to get into it. I think part of me doesn't want to get involved in it because I'm worried it may get canceled:laughing:.

"Inception" was a great movie. It reminded me of "The Matrix". Both films had me scratching my head and saying "What the wha...?!? Definitely had me working to wrap my mind around the concepts in both movies.

Wow, there haven't been that many resposes yet and I noticed that three of them were written by Dennis Lehane (Gone Baby Gone, Shutter Island and Mystic River). If you liked the movie, read the books. Even more exciting and thought provoking!

So weird, Ally, we just saw Inception for the first time last night as well. I feel like I need to watch it again to really get everything though I really enjoyed it. Another one I feel that way about is The Usual Suspects. The last 2 minutes of that movie will just knock your socks off if you've been paying attention to the whole thing. I also agree with Shutter Island although I found the ending to be upsetting.

Vanilla Sky, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Being John Malovitch, Memento.

Mystic River is one of my favorite movies. I didn't realize there was a book too. I'll have to put it on my reading list.

Wow! I had no idea those movies were based on books. Now I'm off to find more books for my Nook wish list. Thanks eeyoresmom!:goodvibes

The Visitor

I do like movies that make me think although sometimes I want something silly that will take my mind off of all of the things that are happening in the world that I don't have any control over.

From what I recall, the movie is close to the book. I read the book before seeing the movie.
