Hi everyone. I was just doing a search for movies to put on my IPad for our trip to Florida but they are expensive. My DS enjoys Thomas the train but all the movies on iTunes, he has and since we are already bringing a DVD player I don't want to buy something he already has. So I was thinking of downloading some Disney movies like cars or incredible a but they are $20 and we have those movies too. Are there any movies that I can download relatively inexpensive? Can I do a search on price? I don't have an account with iTunes so this is my first time downloading anything from them. Thank you

I feel your pain, those Itunes movies are really expensive!

I don't know if you have looked closely at your Disney DVDs, but if you have bought the Diamond edition of any of the DVDs, you have a digital copy that you can load into itunes and put on your ipad. We always buy the Diamond edition just for this reason.

Another idea is to keep your eyes open for itunes giftcard deals. When I see them I buy them and put them away just for buying movies for the kids.

Consider renting them too! When you rent, you have 30 days to open it and then can watch it as often as you like for 24 hours. My kids are older, so we do this on road trips., and each gets a turn to watch the movie.

Also, rent in SD and not HD. It's a little cheaper and takes less memory space.

Graduation/Fathers Day is soon... which means to be on the lookout for iTunes deals. I know for example Best Buy & Target offer cards on sale several times throughout the year. I never buy my iTunes cards full price!

I agree that you should look into renting iTunes movies. Also, since you are bringing a dvd player, try joining Redbox. Their kiosks are everywhere and you can just rent movies during your trip and return them at any Redbox kiosk.

If you're bringing a DVD player can't you just borrow a bunch from the library?

Borrow from your local library!

If you don't want to borrow from your library or bring your own DVDs, I suggest using Redbox. DVDs rent for $1.20 a day, and there are machines all over the place, and you can return them to any machine, so you could rent the movie in Florida, watch it that night, them return it in Virginia later, get a new one. Return it in New Jersey, etc. it's very convenient, but the selection isn't huge.

Great idea! Why didn't anyone else think of this, ;)

Another idea is to invest in a ripping software to convert your DVDs to an ipad compatible file, or any other format you like. Also by ripping it will use far less storage space than most of the digital copies. You'll probably also need a decoding program to override the copyright.

We will be flying so redbox is out unfortunately. But I may rent. We do have digital copies but don't have the insert with the code but I may contact the support team to see if they can help me. Thanks for the ideas.

So I am assuming that once you rent or buy you don't need Internet to watch, I am praying this is the case

I have seen red boxes in many airports.

Also, amazon prime video streaming works on iPads so for $80 you can stream for the year. I don't have it, but just researched. I think you can only do that where you have wifi access.

You don't need the internet to watch a rented movie. The movie will download to your device when you rent it (this requires the internet) but the internet is not needed to go in and watch the movie later :thumbsup2

I have to warn you that this isn't always true. I have been unable to open movies rented from iTunes (yes, I loaded them correctly) on my iPad when an Internet connection is not available (on a plane). It is a common problem (do a Google search; many people complain about this). I no longer rent because of this.

I suggest buying a DVD ripping program and making your own digital copies. That's what I do, then I store them on my Kingston Wi-Drive.

Does your ipad have wifi? If so I would get Netflix if you don't already have it. $8 a month unlimited and they have a contract with Disney. You can get a good number of Disney movies on there. I know Fox and the Hound 1 and 2, Pocahontas 1 and 2, Dumbo, Aristocats, Tigger Movie, Tarzan & Jane, Alice in Wonderland, Phineas and Ferb, Hercules, Brave Little Toaster, etc, etc, etc are all available.

I watch Netflix when wifi is available, but it is not on the plan

If you purchased the movies and entered the codes into Disney Movie Rewards, you can go back in your history and get the codes to access your digital copies.

:confused3

All iPads have wi-fi. OP wants to watch movies on a plane; Netflix will not be useful for that.
