This cracked me up. Talk about corporate greed!

EDITED Ooooops, TURNS OUT TO BE UNTRUE. Was sent to me by a reliable source, but it turns out to be a "What if" PIECE OF FICTION. Sorry I didn't check it out myself before I posted it.

Moviegoers Booted From Theater for Sharing Popcorn

Nashville, TN - Local residents Jane and Chris Fisher were escorted from the Loews Super-18 Cineplex last night after sharing a bag of popcorn. The incident occurred 10 minutes into the 10 p.m. showing of The Matrix Reloaded . A theater manager who refused to give his name explained that the two customers had been sharing a "small" bag of popcorn. "The small-size popcorn is intended for one serving size," the man stated. "These individuals were violating those guidelines." While executives at Loews' corporate offices would not comment specifically, spokeswoman Michelle Gusman referred reporters to a cost-analysis report of shared-popcorn losses in the previous fiscal year.

How silly! I'm sorry, I guess paying upwards of $9 per person for tickets isn't good enough?

Maybe they should tack on a "sharing charge" when selling the popcorn.....

Oh brother!!!!!!! Guess I better watch myself. The 4 of us go to the movies, buy the XL size(with free re-fill)get in the theatre, split it up into individual brown lunch bags I brought from home, then head out to get the free re-fill before the movie starts. We also split 2 sodas.Oh yeah, did I mention we stop at the Dolar store on the way in and get the king size candy for $1 and stash it in my purse?

The article doesn't say, but does that bag come with unlimited refills - in that case "Sharers will be charged" would come into play, but to be removed from the theatre is a bit extreme.....ok, it's over the top. If all you get is the one bag (no refills) it isn't anyone's business if I eat it all myself or share with the whole theatre. They surely have more important things to police besides popcorn sharing don't they. Someone's management position must have gone to his head!!!!

At the movie theatre I usually go to (a Cinemark), the small bag does NOT come with unlimited refills. The only time you get a refill (I think...we've never gotten a refill so I'm not clear on the policy)is if you buy an XL size bag of popcorn.

What a moron. Maybe they wanted popcorn but weren't hungry enough (or had enough $$$) to buy seperate bags.

:(
Some people just have too much time on their hands.

Thats why I sneak in food in the theatre. Sounds like the manager had to much time on his hands. He probably needed to be checking IDs for underage kids in the movie.

Okay, just in case anyone believes that this is a story with any basis in truth, here's a quote from the magazing that appears above this story...
... We wondered, What if other businesses sought to create the same customer experience? Here's what the morning papers might report. (Note to our more literal-minded readers: None of these people, if they even exist, said or did any of what follows.)

sorry folks, it's just a joke!! (Thank goodness!!)

Thank you for clarifying that. It sounded like pure insanity.

Ooooops! So sorry!

It was sent to me from a relaible source, guess I should have checked it myself.

However, I do have a client (I work for movie theaters) who checks your car as you enter his drive in theater and if he finds food charges you a surcharge. (I think it's $5). You can avoid the search by fessing up in advance and paying the fee.

Guess that's why I thought it might be free.

LOL! We don't go to the movies often but when we were teenagers we always snuck food/wine coolers/ etc. in the movies in our purses.

that's crazy!!!

My friends and I never buy food and if we get some it's b/c I get it free with my moviewatchers card! My friend and I shared a large popcorn and a large drink b/c I got it for free on friday!

I'm also the ghetto one that sneaks in burger king tacos from time to time! :p

That this is almost easy to believe is a sad commentary on our quality of life these days. As I was reading it I couldn't help thinking maybe Michael Eisner has family in the theater business.

It's easier to wait a few months, get the DVD, and eat and drink (and share) whatever you want while watching it, not to mention using the pause feature when you need to get up.

Geez, is somebody actually watching out for popcorn sharing in the theatres? That's insane! Maybe customers of that theatre should stay away for a couple of weeks and they'll be wishing someone was sharing their popcorn.

Gosh, what is the world coming to ever...........that is so pathetic..........

No matter what size popcorn we buy when we go to the movies, it's always shared..............

The movies cost enough as it is, without buying individual drinks & popcorn.:(
