We went and saw it on Saturday and thought it was great! I was pretty much prepared not to like it because I think the original was a classic. But the new version is really good!

I loved the last scene with the Youngers and James boys... When she called Frank James "white trash" I about lost it. (My grandpa's family lived down the road from the Younger's and James' in Missouri. My great uncle used to say how everyone in the county thought that the James' were just white trash).

I saw it last week and give it way up! Jeff Bridges was awesome. I have not seen the original so have nothing to compare it to. However, this movie ranks up there on my list of best movies ever.

DH & I went on NYE. We thought it was a great movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The young lady that plays "Maddie" was amazing! Jeff Bridges, well, I love him anyway but the "mumbling" at times it was hard for me to understand him. He brought so much humor to the character. Matt Damon was ok.

I saw an interview with the actor who portrayed Tom Cuttey aka Bad Guy and he stated this movie was more closely related to the book than to the original movie and thus they were not all that comparible.

I never read the book nor saw the original movie. I don't tend to like Westerns but I loved loved loved the dialogue and the humor in this movie!
The girl was amazing

We saw it last week and both my husband and I thought it was really good. I loved Maddie's character. I especially enjoyed the scene with the horse trader and how she ended up with her horse.

I felt the same way too until I saw the new movie. It's a great movie if you can just set aside the fact that it was a remake. While the basic story is the same there are several differences as well.

I just can't bring myself to see it, maybe later on DVD. I think because I am a huge John Wayne fan and liked the original so much, I am just afraid that I will be disappointed.

Same here. Everyone in my life knows how big a John Wayne fan I am. So, the question of the day around here is will I see it?

Nope, as of right now anyway. On principle alone. You cannot remake the Duke.

That's exactly what I thought too after I saw it. I really went into it thinking it was going to be terrible. But Bridges doesn't try to imitate John Wayne. While the story is similar there are many differences too. It was totally worth going to see

Exactly. It's NOT a remake of the John Wayne movie. My friend is a huge Wayne fan and she loved this version too.

AMC played the original True Grit on Saturday night and I watched it with my Mama, she'd seen it before. I hadn't, but I really enjoyed it!

On Sunday we took my 76 year old Granddaddy to see the new one. He hasn't been to a movie theater in at least 30 years! Even he loved it and he's a huge John Wayne fan!!

Go see it!!
