Note about the pillowcases.....some reported that they were still being done on the Wonder, but not the Magic....then some reported that they were able to get it done on the Magic.

I would not EXPECT to get them done, I think it depends on the CM you talk to at guest services....it is not an offical DCL policy to do the pillowcases so just go and ask and if they say no, they say no....if they yes...then great!! But just don't think it is a given that it will be done.

Never been on a cruise yet, but wondering about this pillowcase thing along with the pakcked gifts buckets....

can anyone give more info to this newbie?

Thanks

Our experiences on last week's Western Magic...

We went to three movies. One was in the afternoon on a port day (Key West), and they had a little stand outside the theater selling bags of popcorn and peanuts. The popcorn was cheap ($1.50) and the peanuts were like $4.00. The total charge with 15% autogratuity was $5.93, which kind of threw us because it was listed on our account as "room service". The second movie was at 11:00 pm and there was no snack stand set up. The third movie was added on CC day because it was pouring :( and was in the Walt Disney Theatre. Preludes was open on one side for that, selling popcorn, snack mix, candy, etc.

We took a pillowcase and a t-shirt to Guest Services to be signed on Tuesday and had no problem getting it done - my DDs love it. Our stateroom host delivered it to us personally about 10:00 pm Friday night.

We were not charged for any of the various things we ordered from room service, including cookies.

Was it hot, buttered popcorn or pre-packaged popcorn?

Thanks,
Sam

It was butter-flavored popcorn in a chip bag, made by Cheetos. I was surprised that it was any good at all, but it actually was pretty good. We munched on the leftovers in our cabin all week. And this is from someone who goes to a movie every Friday night and MUST have her hot buttered popcorn to enjoy it!

I could be wrong about the cookies. We only ordered room service once, and when we were reviewing our charge statement, we asked a guest service rep what the room service charge was for. She told us two sodas and chocolate chip cookies. This was on the 9/11/04 Magic. I wouldn't be suprised if we were misinformed. There were a couple other (minor) details that we got incorrect info about from guest services.

I believe you were charged for the sodas. Soda's are not free if ordered through room service.

As of the 9/28 Magic sailing (and 10 previously), the cookies are free. There is a charge for soda, so this is probably what you were charged for.

As to candy....I can currently buy a 14 ounce bag of M&Ms at Target for $1.77. On the ship, the same bag will cost me $4.60 (including gratuity.) Only I can decide whether to throw a couple bags in my luggage or buy it on board (for me, it's in the luggage.) As of 9/28 sailing (scheduled for 9/25, but hurricaned), they no longer had candy at Scoops as a topping.

One mother and 2 daughters sitting ahead of us spent $14 on movie snacks--the kids were asking for more and mom said "no way." I suggested to her that next time they could stop at deck 9 first and get covered cups of soda free instead of buying cans outside the theatre. Another suggestion is cookies from Scoops or room service, the All Hands on Board cheese and cracker plate from room service, or even a dish of ice cream from Scoops.

One charge for movie snacks probably isn't a big deal, but all the "not a big deal" stuff can add up quickly.

Lots of people have suggested having Shirley from the perfect gift put together a gift package. I plan to do just that. I like the idea of putting it all in a pail w/shovel for CC, and the candy for the movies or other times.
This exactly what we did for DD. She had fun choosing a different snack from her bucket each night for the show. It saved us money at the snack counter in Preludes. She could never decide on what she wanted from the counter and it saved us time for her to have her snack with her. Of course the smoothies are another story...
