My daughter is having a Hollywood theme birthday party. The kids are going to walk the red carpet (the long walkway in front of our house), and leave their handprints in "cement", and attend a gala premiere while getting the "star" treatment. We are turning the living room into a movie theater and I'll serve them in their seats, etc.

Anyway, I need some suggestions for good, fun movies that both boys and girls will enjoy. Ages 10-11. Nothing rated over PG.

Return to Oz is perfect for that age group but it is really hard to like if yer not an Oz fan. Harry Potter is hard to like if your not an HP fan. Star Wars is PG 13 and unless your a history buff obbsessed with the French Revolution I don't beleive Marie Antoinette would be very good so I don't really know what to say. I enjoyed all of those movies

What about:

Jumunji
The Never Ending Story
Balto
White Fang

shrek
princess diaries
ella enchanted

First of all, let me just say that this is the coolest idea for a birthday party!

Anyways, some movies I loved when I was a kid (non-Disney ones, because that's too obvious):

Jumanji
The Marx Brothers movies (especially Duck Soup)
The original Star Wars trilogy
The Land Before Time
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
The old Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers musicals
Monkey Business (a hysterical early '50's movie with Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers)
Back to the Future
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Mrs. Doubtfire
King Kong (the 1933 version)
The old James Bond movies
E.T.

I'm sure I could think of more, given time. :)

i was going to say E.T. What better movie than speilburg for your theme?

a double feature of the old Willie Wonka and the new one might be fun too.

Narnia
The Pink Panther
Yours, Mine and Ours
Hoodwinked
Zathura
Dreamer
Nanny McPhee
Pride & Prejudice (my 10 y/o loves this movie)
Tim Burtons Corpse Bride
Miracle
Apollo 13 (my 10 y/o also loves this movie)

Thanks for the suggestions..keep them coming!

I am very partial to Raiders myself - one of my all time favorite movies and I have the whole series on DVD already anyway.

Just2554, I tried really hard to come up with a theme that wasn't too old or too "kiddy". We have a long, winding, walkway lined with bushes, and I just said "red carpet" to me.

We'll have someone open the car doors as they pull up, and my neighbors are going to be "paparazzi", standing behind the hedges and taking pictures and taping everyone as they walk up.

I would have loved to have rented a limo or something and taken them all to the theater, but that was way too expensive.

Keep the movie ideas coming!

That is really the coolest idea ever, and something I would have loved as a kid. In case you couldn't tell from my list, I've been really into old Hollywood since I was a kid (I used to wish I was Katharine Hepburn haha), so a party like this would have been amazing to me. Your daughter is going to have an amazing time!

When I was 10-11 my favorite movie was the Goonies. Also, Stand By Me is my all time favorite movie, but I think that's rated R.

What a cool idea!! I'm putting this in my good idea book for when my DD is older!

Well, besides the one's already mentioned, I would suggest:

Any Abbott & Costello
Addams Family
any Andy Hardy movies
Annie
Annie Get Your Gun
Apple Dumpling Gang double feature
Any of the Beach Party films :p
Beethoven
Beverly Hillbillies
Big
Bringing Up Baby
Bugsy Malone
Casper
Any Judy Garland
any Shirley Temple (but I'd go with the one's where she's older)
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Any Elvis fans? lol
Curly Sue
Doctor Dolittle (Orginal version & both Eddie Murphy's)
Father Goose
Father of the Bride :)
Flight of the Navigator
Free Willy
Good News (with June Allyson)
Goonies
Grease (but not the second one)
Hook
Ice Age
Inspector General
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (w/Donny Osmond)
Kindergarten Cop
Labyrinth
Little Giants
Little Vampire
Matilda
Mouse Hunt
Mr. Deeds Goes to Town
Music Man
Oliver!
On the Town
Paulie
Princess of Thieves
Escape to/Return From Witch Mountain
Richie Rich
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Shakiest Gun in the West (or pretty much most Don Knotts films)
Sister Act 1 & 2
Sound of Music
Spy Kids
Stuart Little
Superman movies
Take Me Out to the Ballgame
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Willow
Wizard of Oz
Yankee Doodle Dandy
Zeus & Roxanne

and of course pretty much any Disney film I haven't mentioned. :)
