This is inspired by my Superbad thread, the content & rating of that movie really got me thinking.

In Ontario we are much more liberal about movie content, and the only way a movie merits and 18-A rating, is essentially ALOT of violence. ALOT.
Or excessive sexual content, like full-out sex scenes.

Movies I've watched recently, like Superbad & Knocked up for instance, which are FULL of cursing, drug & alcohol content, sexuality, and tons of other "inappropriate" stuff, both movies are rated 14A in Ontario.
Which means anyone 14 + can go watch the movie without parental supervision.

According to IMDB these are the worldwide ratings for Knocked up;

Portugal:M/16 / Canada:13+ (Quebec) / Finland:K-13 / Australia:MA / Germany:12 / Singapore:M18 / USA:R (certificate #43288) / Netherlands:12 / Ireland:16 / Canada:18A (Alberta/British Columbia) / Canada:14A (Manitoba/Ontario) / UK:15 / New Zealand:R16 /USA:R

Superbad is essentially the same thing.

Anyways, my point is, I was just wondering what you guys all think about that, and other movie ratings.

Do you think that having an R rating is better for those kinds of movies?
Or do you figure that 14 is mature enough to watch them?
What do you think about the rating system? and censorship in movies?
State your opinions here. :cool2:

Well, really, I think it should be up to the parents as to whether the teenager can go see the movie. I mean, eventually, the kid will see it anyways (within the next year or two).

I dunno, I find 14 is old enough to see those movies, but that's just basing it off the people I know.

And I just really hate censorship in most forms.

Do you think that having an R rating is better for those kinds of movies? From what I have heard, R seems like a reasonable rating for Knocked Up.

Or do you figure that 14 is mature enough to watch them? It all depends on the parents and the teenager. If the parents think their kids are old enough to watch it, then its up to them.

What do you think about the rating system? and censorship in movies? I have seen a ffew R rated movies and I think that R is a good rating for those movies inparticular. However, the movie the Breakfast Club is rated R but other than bad language it is not that bad.

All in all, I know a lot of people my age who's parents probably wouldn't let them watch R rated movies. I think really it is up to the parents, but certain movies should be restricted depending on age. If the parents think their kids can handle certain movies without parental supervision, they can wait until it comes out on video and dvd.

Most kids 10-14 probably already know about all the stuff thats happening in the movie anyways.
