Does anyone know 1) what the current movie shown on the autotrain is and 2) how often the movies change? popcorn::

I was told that all movies on AMTRAK trains were discontinued in 2004. I believe you can rent a portable DVD player on the autotrain.
We are traveling in sleepers in Aug and are bringing our own portable DVD players for the ride...

We were on the June 3, 2006 Lorton to Sanford AutoTrain and the movie shown in "first class" (we had a roomette) was Narnia. It was shown 2 times during the evening. We went to the 2nd showing at 9:00pm. I do remember seeing at the station that the movie being shown on the Sanford to Lorton trip was different, but I can't remember which one it was and we drove back north.
I do not know how often they change the movies.

Thanks for the help. We may rent one of the entertainment systems from the station if the movie is not one my son will watch. But he loves Narnia. Maybe it will still be there in 4 weeks!

FYI - The movies that are shown in the evening on the AutoTrain are usually appropriate for most all ages.
The rental player is preloaded with about 6 movies, various TV shows and music, and the cost for rental for 1 way was $29.95.

I'm glad you posted, as I can add some info! I also took the Autotrain from Lorton to Sanford, on around May 15th or so, and the movie being played was also Narnia. And I was also in the sleeper cars. So it looks like Narnia was being played for two and a half weeks right there, from Mid-May to early June. :) And like you, I also drove home so I didn't see the northbound movie.

Ah! All this talk about the Autotrain makes me wish for a ride! :cloud9:

We just travelled June 11th and June 24th and the movie going south was Shaggy DA. Returning North it was Eight Below.

Movies were shown at 7:15 and 9:15 in the lounge cars. Be aware if you are sensitive AT ALL to smoke, the smoking area of the train is in the lower level of the lounge car and it definately drifts up to the upper level where the movie is shown.

according to a page at amtrakguestrewards.com:

------------------------------------
Beginning November 15, Auto Train passengers can rent the world's first self-contained, portable video on-demand system, preprogrammed with movies, television shows, cartoons, videos, music and more.

For just $19, Auto Train passengers can rent the digEplayerTM at the Lorton, Virginia and Sanford, Florida stations and enjoy a variety of movies, television shows, music, music videos and vacation information for the duration of their trip. The digEplayerTM has an 8-10 hour battery life. Content will be refreshed frequently, providing enough programming variety to meet every passenger's needs.
----------------------------------------

I took the train up (alone) after my CP ended in Jan. I wish I had rented that video player for the trip. However they did have a movie play twice in the lounge car (very small TVs though).... and I think it was the movie "Red Eye". (I was bored enough that I sat and watched the movie both times they played it)
