Last year we had a wonderful time, our room was great, very clean, etc. We got to the end of our trip and I was going to leave one tip in a envelope and I FORGOT TO LEAVE IT! We got home and I felt so bad I almost mailed it down there but I didn't. What would you have done? I feel like I should double up this year!

I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think that the mousekeepers expect a tip as it is not a tipped position like say bell services. Many people do tip however and I am sure it is appreciated by the mousekeeper. You may have had several different people tidy during your stay so unless you tipped every day you could not be assured that your main cleaner would get it.

Enjoy your trip and tip a small amount each day if you feel that you have received good service.

I make up and envelope for each day with a small amt to say thank you....cuz I never know if we will have the same person every day......I know somewhere on the boards is a post about different envelope designs you can use...I just make up my own. But this is just something that is an individual choice to leave a tip or not.

Just Curious - when you go other places besides Disney and stay for an extended time do you tip the housekeeping then also? I have mixed feelings on this. I did tip last year but because I felt guilty as everyone else in my party was.

yep always in any hotel im in and i always pick up too i hate leaving the rooms messy.....

I always tip housekeeping as well, but at Disney I tip a small amount each day as opposed to a larger amount at the end of my stay.

What's with the envelopes when tipping? I've never used an envelope at any hotel to tip--just put the tip in an obvious place like a table or next to the TV and trust me, they'll take it.
The envelope seems like a waste of paper to me.

Personally for me, in all my years of travel both business and pleasure rarely did house keeping pick up the money unless I either left a quick note with it or placed it in an envelope with house keeping written on it. Just leaving it on a tv or table they will not know the purpose unless it's the day I check out. The envelope is far from a waste of paper to me. :goodvibes

yes I usually do tip housekeeping a few bucks in hotels- I feel like with a kid we make a mess

cuz it adds to the fun of my trip planning.....they are cute and add a little something fun to the tip.......to each his own....

Some hotels actually provide and envelope for this purpose but if they don't I write a note. Otherwise they usually leave the money where it is.

We have a Mousekeeping envelope made up for each day, w/ tip in for each day.

I'm the odd duck because we don't usually leave a tip- maybe a little at the end. They do not rely on tips- if we are a different country then we do- but a CM said housekeeping does not have to be tipped. If a person wants- that's great but it's not required. We are not messy ppl though either- I really don't like ppl picking up my stuff.

We have always left daily tips for the housekeeper, no matter where we've traveled to in the US, but never used envelopes. We place it in an obvious location, and it's always been picked up. I'm quite surprised to hear that mousekeeping doesn't expect any tips. We plan to leave daily tips while at WDW, but now I'm thinking we need to use envelopes.

Don't feel bad, many people do not leave tips.
I don't ever leave tips for housekeeping/mousekeeping. Housekeeping at a hotel is not a "tiped" position such as a server at a restaurant. They are paid a wage that doesn't rely on tips. Is it a great wage, probably not, but it is more than the reception people get....and do you tip them???

I worked at a hotel when I was first out of school, it is a wonderful thing to get a tip but it is NOT expected, nor is it relied upon.

My mother was a hotel maid in Waikiki for much of her life. It was common courtesy to leave a tip for the housekeeper. Maybe that's why I've grown up thinking we always should tip for good housekeeping service.

We normally leave a tip each day for Mousekeeping in an envelope. I know it is not expected or relied upon, it's just a way of saying "Thank You" for our clean room. We don't leave our things laying around either. I always pick up every evening before bed, and each morning before we leave for the parks. If not, our boys will end up losing something and hold us up looking for it.
