Mousekeeping Tips?

We tip each day and leave it on the table with a note of who it's for. One day, DH didn't leave the note and they didn't take it.

Just an FYI-unless you place your tip in something that has mousekeeping tip or tip written on it the mousekeepers are unable to take it. It must be clearly marked/designated for them.

We usually leave $5 every morning on the bathroom counter when we leave for the day. We either put a 5-dollar bill or 5-ones right on the counter (no envelope) and the mousekeepers always take it.

We tipped $5/night the first two days of our trip, but our room was so poorly taken care of that I finally called to say that our toilet had never been cleaned, our sheets were not changed, our toiletries were not replenished and the dead bugs that were in our room when we arrived were still there. They came and cleaned our room that day and did a better, but still pretty poor job. I reluctantly tipped the remaining days. We never received any towel animals and my kids' stuffed animals that they brought were unceremoniously dumped on the computer desk in a big lump everyday when mouse-keeping "made" the beds. The dead bugs were sill in place when we left. We stayed on the club level of the Contemporary (other than Mousekeeping, we were delighted w/ the hotel).

You must have missed it, but there is a card by the bed telling you that they do not change the sheets every day. I think they are up to once a week, unless you request differently. And towel animals are a neat thing that mousekeepers do if they have extra time. You shouldn't expect them as part of basic service, if you do you are just setting yourself up to be disappointed.

To be honest, I never even realized that people did that until I joined this board!:confused3

From now on I guess I'll leave something.

Rut Roh Rorge... I'm in trouble.
I've booked the 1br villa for our upcoming stay & although I typically stay via points and have the trash/towel service on the 4th day, it just occurred to me they'll be coming in daily to clean this time around as we've booked through the resort w/bounceback offer.

That alone isn't cause for concern... it's the fact that we'll have the full blown kitchen ... and ... well... I just don't want my "mom" cleaning up my kitchen after me everyday & particularly don't want to tip her for making me feel bad about leaving some dishes in the sink :rotfl2:

I guess the do not disturb sign will be on the door quite a bit this stay.... Rats!... I do love towel animals too.

Who started this whole tip thing anyway?
and please, why does one need to have a full blown room cleaning every day? I don't know anyone who totally cleans their homes every day, so why expect Mousekeepers to do it. Unless you have kids like my friend. They can't eat a banana without getting crumbs everywhere. She leaves good tips.
Okay, got the flame suit ready.....

People are making them at home with stickers etc on them & taking them with them on their trip:) They are just regular envelopes that people decorate :)

There is a site where you can print special Thank You Mousekeeping envelopes.

Its very easy to use it.
I think its not permitted to post the link here so send me an pm for the link.

I don't think housekeepers expect tips, like food service/valet/bellmen do, but we like to do it anyway. We tip $5/night and leave the money (no envelope) on the bathroom sink every morning under the little housekeeping card that says "My name is __________ , and I'm your housekeeper." They get it every time.

We were at the Poly earlier this month and tipped mousekeeping every day. We had 2 connecting rooms and there were 9 people staying in those rooms. With the 3 kids that were staying in those 2 rooms, we never once had any towel animals, nor did we have the stuffed animals, dolls, toys, etc., put into any kind of cute circle or group together. I agree with a PP that it depends on the mousekeeper whether or not you get anything. I don't expect anything, but a clean room and extra towels. We had to ask our same mousekeeper 4 days in a row for extra towels; she would not just give us extras until we asked. The last two days we either asked our new mousekeeper or called down to housekeeping. No big deal -- we were just happy to be there!! :)

Okay I may be being mean about this but I have to reply to the above post about not tipping because this is not considered a tipped position at Disny. And as a Former House Keeper and as a Current Maintenance worker in a school (cleaning Rooms).
Do You realize how Thankless this job is, not only are these people changing your dirty sheets that you have done god knows what on , but they are also washing out the toliets,, sinks and showers that people also do God knows what On.

No offense taken, but I felt compelled to respond.

I do tip by the way......

I work a pretty thankless job too. I am in inside sales where I have rude clients complain to me quite often because the account executives don't know how to do their job.

I am not a tipped position either and nobody gives me tips.

While I understand tipping somebody for cleaning your room, I think it is fair to remember that DISNEY is the one that classifies this as a NON-tipped position, therefore tipping is at the discretion of the guest and they should not be chastisted for it or made to feel like they are cheating the system.

Not all people leave the rooms messy or do the things you are suggesting. When we visit Disney, we wipe down our own sink after we get ready in the morning and put our stuff away. As for making the bed, we pretty much do that ourselves while we are getting ready in the morning and all of our towels are folded and set inside the tub for replacement. We still tip $2 per person per day or no more than $5.

Changing out my towels is not worth $5 if you ask me, but we seem to do it anyway. ;)

I never write anything, I just take the little card that is in the room when you get there saying welcome and the name ofthe person that will be cleaning your room, I toss that card on the bed with 4 or 5 dollars depending on what I have on me at the time and everyday its gone and the card is back on the counter.
As far as changing the sheets, the card in my room said they change them every 3 days unless you ask for more- heck I only change mine at home once a week so every three days seems great to me LOL.
We had a little duck when we got into the room at POR last week, the next day she made this cute little towel holder thing for our toothbrushes. She always put my daughters giant stuffed animal on the bed with her blanket wrapped around him. We had a few towel animals during the week and my daughter was always happy to come and see what was there that day.
My daughter wrote a note the first day and left it on her bed asking them not to put that bedspread on her bed and they left it folded up on the chest the whole time instead of putting it on. My daughter grosses with those, when she found out the don't wash them every time a new guest comes she said "ewww people with naked butts could have sat on them" I didn't want to get into what else they could have done on them LOL- but she rips it off her bed as soon as we check into the room in every hotel!

Us germ freaks are developing younger and younger!:lmao:

As a former housekeeper and waitress in my way younger days, I always tip for housekeeping - it is a thankless job, for the most part, so any little thing I leave makes ME feel better. I usually travel with just my DH and only once have I gotten any towel art - and I was SO thrilled!!! I'm one of those who leave the room practically spotless as I don't want all my personal stuff out for anyone to see. It only takes a minute to throw used towels in the tub or the blankets pulled back if the sheets are due to be changed. I like to think I'm one of those people that housekeeping is happy to have visit!

I really think everyone in this world should work being a waitress and/or housekeeper, just so they recognize how little it takes to make someone else's job just a little easier.

Seriously I think there are alot of jobs out there, that this can be said about.

That being said, I have never tipped a housekeeper nor will I ever. My choice, period!

But it does make me laugh when people get upset when their sheets aren't changed everyday. Hello, do you change your sheets everyday at home?

There are 3 of us, we keep the room cleaned up and neat and we leave $5 every morning. I write "Thank you Mousekeeping" on the back of one of the paper Mickey coasters, anchor it with a glass and leave it near the sink in plain sight.:flower3:

Agreed. ;)

I was only sleeping on them, I swear! :confused3

...but they are also washing out the toilets, sinks and showers that people also do God knows what On.

I was, er, answering the call of nature on the toilet, then washing my hands and brushing my teeth in the sink, and washing off all the sun block in the shower.

Really, I'm not some pervert...I just live in the hotel room pretty much like I do at home.

I realize there are some who have lower sanitary standards than I, but it's a hotel room, and since I'm paying huge $$$ to use it, I expect that someone else will "make it right" for me every day so I can spend my time (and money) in the parks, making Disney even more profit so they can keep paying that nice stock dividend.

I'll tip if the Mousekeeping staff goes "above and beyond." To me, that's niceties I don't expect (fresh soap every day, towel animals, extra cups, ice in the ice bucket, etc.).

I do expect Mousekeeping to change towels, take out the trash and make the beds, however, so I hope they don't expect a tip for the bare minimum service. :sad2:
