Mousekeeping Tip Envelopes

I have a friend who works in Mousekeeping and her daughter works at the front desk of the same resort. They say the majority of the guests do not leave tips, the housekeepers don't expect it, and they get paid very well. She told me not to tip, so I quit leaving tips when at WDW.

Nonsense.
We have met and talked to many mousekeeping ladies over the years. They do not make big money and mostly are poor.
Those few dollars are more than welcome.

Besides I would tip every one that makes my bed, cleans my room and bathroom although I am a clean freak and never leave any dirt behind. :lmao:

We pay five dollars twice a day. The morning housekeeping and the ladies the do the turn over get the same amount.

Amazing how people will reject facts that don't match their world view.
Housekeeping at WDW is not a tipped position.
Tip if you want, but don't say "nonsense" to the facts.

Also, I remember seeing some cute envelope templates with different Disney characters on them. I'm not sure if it was here or if anyone knows where it was.

Here is a link to a site I print my Mousekeeping envelopes from. You can either print them on a standard envelope or print them out as a envelope template that you can make yourself. ( comes in great when I don't have envelopes in the house ).

My husband and I worked in service industry for years and always leave a tip. Our rule of thumb is $5 left each day (there are different housekeepers each day). On our last day, we usually leave $10. I like the idea of specially printed envelopes.

The maids at WDW start at minimum wage. I wouldn't say that they are actually raking it in. They are on their feet all day, cleaning up after people. Tipping is up to the individual, but I wanted to point out that making minimum wage isn't getting paid very well for doing what they do.

Amen. Disney is already getting thousands of dollars from me...I don't feel inclined to tip mousekeeping....or the bus
drivers....or the guy driving the boat...or the actress playing the Little Mermaid....or the cast members on the rides....or the lifeguard...come on.

What are the facts, though? The word of a friend of a friend saying that the maids make excellent money? In another thread on this board, somebody claimed the maids made $5 a day from the majority. This person did the math and said the maids were making $18,000 a year in tax free income.

So...what are the facts? Are maids overpaid, paid well, or barely scraping by on minimum wage? I'm guessing it's the latter.

I don't want to get into a tipping argument, and I'd venture to say that tipping isn't expected. I guarantee it's appreciated. I find fault with the argument that maids are paid really well and that because somebody who worked at a front desk at Disney says not to tip, that nobody should.

If this continues to degenerate into another ridiculous argument over the housekeepers' salary, this thread will be closed. Whether or not one tips housekeeping is a personal choice. The OP has chosen to tip. How about helping her out by letting her know how much you generally tip housekeeping at WDW, if you do.

We leave $1 for each person in our party, plus $1 ... in other words, there are two of us, so $3 per day.

HTH :goodvibes

We dont want mousekeeping so the first day we find our mousekeeper and tip her not to enter our room. Usually half of what we would tip her for our stay. We generally tip $5per day for value, $10per day for mod, and $15 per day for deluxe.:scratchin

We had great service at AKL last year and asked at the front desk and the CM said that the mousekeepers always have the same block of rooms with typically two days off a week so your service might be great and then not for a few days or not good and then good if the CM was off but we always tip daily $1 per day per person. I copied some old mousekeeping designs off Dis and created my own using google images and microsoft word (those ones aren't as good as the dis ones haha)

Let me put is this way. One of our Mousekeepers is deep in her seventies. We know her for several years. She is a very fragile lady and I'm almost ashamed she has to clean our room. It is a lovely sweet black lady and me and my sister always tip her more than enough because we feel very oncomfortly that she has to work at that age.
Every time we see her the word slave pops up in our mind. Nobody that old should be cleaning other peoples toilet. I'm convinced she is not working because she makes good money.

OP tip what you can miss and remember if you can spend thousands of Dollars for you're pleasure a few bucks for those that slave for us wont break the bank unless you are a cheap xxx of course.

I am not one to generally tip housekeepers while on vacation, however I did give our mousekeeper $10 per day on our recent stay. Problem was, I asked her if she was looking after us for out entire stay. She said yes. Gave it to her up front, and then I'm sure I saw someone different in the vicinity of our room on our last two days.
My fault for not leaving it daily, but I'm not 100% she didn't do our room everyday.

Do you actully have mouse keeping in your room every day? Normally when DH and I stay in hotels we put the "do not disturb" sign on and leave it on. If we are there for a week might just take it off one day mid week or ask housekeeping directly for fresh towels. We keep the room neat and I cannot imagine having it actually cleaned each day. I guess we are weird, though? Are we missing out on something if we do this at Disney?

If you leave the do not disturb sign on you will get a call from housekeeping asking if you want service for that day. Of course if you are not in the room they won't come in, but it certainly stops people from complaining afterwards that their room was never made up.
