I'm planning to rent a DVC villa for a June 2009 vacation. Would someone please explain how Mousekeeping works on a rental...Unlike a hotel room, villas are not cleaned by housekeeping daily, correct? How much should I budget for 2 cleanings over a 5 day period at the Beach Club or Boardwalk Villas? Thank you!

If you are staying 7 nights or less, you will get Trash & Towel service on day 4. If you are staying 8 nights or more, you will get a full cleaning on day 4 and trash & towel service on day 8.
With Trash & Towel service, Housekeeping will:
  • Empty trash and replace liners in trash bins.
  • Provide fresh bathroom linens.
  • Replace shampoo, facial soap and bath soap.
  • Replenish facial tissues, paper towels and toilet paper.
  • Replenish coffee, sugar, cream and sweeteners.
  • Replenish dishwashing liquid, dishwashing detergent, sponges and laundry detergent as needed in one-, two- and three-bedroom Vacation Homes.

You can pay extra for another Trash & Towel service or a Full Cleaning. Currently those rates are:
Additional Full Cleaning Rates:
Studio/Inn Room - $30.00 per day requested
One-Bedroom - $45.00 per day requested
Two-Bedroom - $60.00 per day requested
Three-Bedroom - $75.00 per day requested

Additional Trash & Towel Rates:
Studio/Inn Room - $15.00 per day requested
One-Bedroom - $20.00 per day requested
Two-Bedroom - $25.00 per day requested
Three-Bedroom - $35.00 per day requested

Note: Rates are subject to change

With Full Cleaning service, Housekeeping will provide everything included with the Trash & Towel Service, plus:

Change the bed linens.
Vacuum and dust the Vacation Home.
Clean the bathroom(s).
Clean the kitchen/kitchenette and wash the dishes.

I was concerned when we rented (before buying) about not having the room cleaned every day. I can tell you that I really like not having mousekeeping coming in every day. I don't have to worry about making sure certain things are put away (blankies, stuffed animals) so they don't get caught up in the bedding or towels. I certainly don't change the beds & towels every day at home, so why would I on vacation?

If you need extra mousekeeping, the prices have been quoted for you. Just wanted to suggest that you may not need it :goodvibes

if on day 4 could u pay the difference of the trash service and have them clean the unit:cool1:

I couldn't agree more. The more DVC stays we have, the more appreciative I become!

It's funny you mention this, because I recently took a business trip, and stayed at a Homewood Suites (Hilton) in North Carolina. It was a beautiful room, and was very similar to a 1-BR vacation home. However, I was completely annoyed that they cleaned my room every day, and it was ONLY me!!! In fact, one of the days I was there, I put a Do Not Disturb sign on my door all day just so they wouldn't clean!!!

:thumbsup2 I agree too. We were at SSR for 7 nights right before Thanksgiving and I enjoy not having the full cleaning actually. Just the Trash and Towel service works for us..for a week or less.

Kind of hi-jacking the thread but can I ask a question about tipping Mouskeeping at DVC?

They didn't take the envelope (it was left on the dining table clearly marked) and I'm now totally confused!!

Anyone else had this? Are you supposed to just leave it all at the end of your stay? I was under the impression you left the appropriate amount as and when they came in to clean etc.

We're here for 13 night so get full service twice and 1 trash and towel service.

We don't tip. The Mousekeepers are paid with our dues and once is enough in my opinion. If we request something extra and get excellent service then we tip.

We also don't tip for the same reason. I've also heard/been told that they're not supposed to take tips. I think it's different at the hotel resorts with daily mousekeeping

I tip on T/T day and at the end.

Hey I am on vacation and happy I figure a couple extras dollars to the housecleaning is no big deal. Also tip if I call and ask for something like extra towels, etc.

I put the tip in envelopes marked for them.

Many do not tip and that is fine but our personal thoughts are when we feel we can't afford these extra tips its time to stay home.

Please again that is our personal thoughts we do not want to make anyone mad if they do not tip, that is your right.:flower3:

I have a question too.
Does this mean you have to wash your own towels? Or can you get new ones somewhere? :confused3

You get fresh towels every four days. You can pay for extra or wash them yourself. Sometimes if you ask, the Mousekeepers will give you extra at no charge.
