Mouse Problem

How are you capturing them with a tube and a garbage can?
Maybe you could patent the device, got a picture?

You could tag them with ffod dye and see if they are returning.

If you google paper tube trap it comes up on YouTube.

If you do foam, they will chew through it. If you stuff steel wool in those gaps, they won't get in.

True. I had a mouse under the kitchen sink. I used the expanding foam to fill the little space next to the pipe. A few days later I went under the sink and the foam was scattered around the whole cabinet in little pieces and the hole was visible again.

Get some of the pellets of poison, put them under the sink and whereever you think the mice are hanging out. They will eat the poison, bring it back to the nest to share with their friends and they will die of thirst.

I've heard the poison is a bad idea because then they'll die inside the walls, and their bodies will rot and smell. And them dying of thirst seems even more inhumane then the snap traps.

We have had mice in two of the houses we have lived in. Both houses had a field nearby and when the field was cut the mice came into the house. Both times we tried traps first. Snap traps, glue traps and the live traps and never caught a single mouse. But within a week or so of putting the poison pellets out we had no more mice.

In our first house two of the mice died in the middle of the floor and DH found them and threw them out. One died in the vent but the dog found it and DH got it out. I don't know about any others.

At the house we are in now I don't know where they died and I don't care. We never had any problems. But I've been told that they will leave the house in search of water once they eat the poison so I don't know, but I've never smelled a rotting mouse so I'm not overly concerned.

We have mice in our building somtimes. But very rarely. The landlord has a huge garage that isn't very clean and is invested with tons of mice... so they come over to the house.

However I have only seen two in my apartment and both times it was already dead from our cat. We have never seen any other signs of mice being around.

This is in contrast to my parents house that had mice for years while my dad was setting snap traps, etc. The cat really does work best.

I don't remember what brand we bought. We did get it at Walamart if that helps. One thing we figured out was not to leave it in all year round. I think maybe they can adapt to it? Not sure. We mostly had problems certain times a year so we just left it in during those.

We've never had one die in the wall and smell that I know of. Frankly, I'm not worried about if it is inhumane or not. I just want them gone, and soon when I find out that they are in my house.

This isn't true. The poison actually turns their body into dust (they dry up) Gross but at least they won't smell. I feel for you! I'm going through the same thing in my apartment building at the moment. It doesn't sound AS bad as your situation but if they don't get it under control, it definitely will be!

Had a problem when they started construction down the road and the mice started coming into my house. They definately like chocolate as that's how I found out about them- had chocolate hidden in the basement for easter and one was a bunny lollipop- it had bite marks in it- was freaking me out!

We tried humane traps, the sonar sound thing- it was horrible. I was ready to try anything when DH laughingly mentions a cat. I immediately grabbed the idea and brought home a kitten the following week- had to be 'approved' for the adoption. Never saw another mouse after that. My husband regrets that comment deeply- he hates my cat.:lmao:

Mice have recently invaded my apartment. I've been setting up a paper towel tube trap that catches them in the trash can, and then letting them go in the morning away from my building. But there are still mice. Almost every morning when I wake up there's another mouse in the trash can.

I really don't want to kill them, but I'm very close to going out and getting a bunch of snap traps, since I just can't stand them in my kitchen anymore.

I was just wondering if anyone knew of an effective way to get rid of mice for good without killing them?

Apartments have landlords. The mouse problem is their problem. Call the landlord and have them get an exterminator to fix the mouse problem.

Do you know where they are entering your apartment? If so, stuff the entry place with steel wool. Mice cannot chew through steel wool. Keep in mind that they can enter through very small spaces.

:earsboy: Mickey will NOT be happy with this thread:eek:

Many years ago - DH & I were in our first house, I was pregnant. The house was new and next to a field where they were grading to put up more houses. Our house was invaded by mice! They got into our kitchen and our bedroom - into drawers! One time - I stood on the toilet, hysterical, because they were running around. My mother was making layette items for our baby, and had bought some cute Mickey Mouse material for the trim. She just couldn't give those items to me - there were mice on them! (actually, Mickey Mouse would have been fine with me, but she wouldn't take the chance that it would throw me into a panic!)

We finally shoved steel wool around any pipe coming into the house. We found that they were coming into the house through the intake air vent from the garage - we placed a fine mesh screen on the garage side of that.

But I agree - when you're living in an apt - it's up to the super to take care of this problem.

Not a very nice alternative but it doesn't involve traps or poison.

Leave a decent amount of dried rice. They'll stuff themselves. When they take a drink, the rice expands in their stomach and BOOM.

It's quick and you don't have to worry about poison or traps.

OMG. That's just truly awful. I don't want them around but, my God, how painful. At least get a regular trap and have a good chance of making it quick. For crying out loud, we are supposed to be the top species. That's just cruel.

I second the idea of just getting your landlord involved. They'll have an exterminator come out. Much better than getting Hantavirus.

I had an infestation that lasted for a year and a half in a new apartment! My landlord is a slum lord and doesn't do anything if he can get away with it. They had to replace 2 ovens, because the mice tore out the insulation and nested in the oven. I haven't cooked in my apartment since I moved in back in July 2009. I can't tell you how many times they came in, did a cursory look for holes, plugged them up, but kept finding holes whenever they came back. I finally demanded that they pull out the sink, because I'd caught many in the under-sink cabinet. They found a hole about an inch high and two feet long, plugged it with poison and cement and I haven't had any mice since (about a month now). Before then, I used snap traps, glue traps, tunnel traps, the traps that keep the mouse alive, etc. If you keep finding mice, there is a hole where they get access. Make sure your front door is flush to the threshold, too.
