When do you call the exterminator? We've caught 5 in the past week. 2 in the garage and 3 in the furnace room. We think we found the hole where they're coming in from the garage to the furnace room and plugged it on Saturday. On Sunday noticed that the peanut butter was gone from the trap in the furnace room, which means one of those critters was in the house after we plugged our hole (or we have another hole!) We put more peanut butter and caught him yesterday. So is this an infestation??

On a side note, I'm an animal lover and have a hard time remembering that these guys are nasty little rodents who multiply and cause damage. It's even harder to explain to DD3 that Mickey isn't really this kind of mouse :)

I'd call someone ASAP. If you're actually seeing mice that means there are lots of them. We had an issue last Fall, never saw any but heard scratching above in our ceiling. It took almost 4 months to completely rid ourselves of the problem. We had a 3 month contract and extended it another 3 months just to be sure but the last time the guy checked the traps there was no activity. Good luck :)

We had a good number of Mickey's distant relatives set up housekeeping last year ('04) winter, in the garage. Thankfully, they never came in the house. Once we realized they were there, we used a combination of many of the traditional snap traps along with poison. After a good number of trap catches and poison heving been consumed, they were gone. We had no return this year, but did bait the areas in the garage with poison just in case. The poison is just as we placed it there in the fall, so no new visitors this year.

For those that don't like to mess with traps or poisons there is a great gadget called a Rat Zapper. The rodent steps on a medal plate and is quickly zapped. You don't have to touch it or even see it.

If you've caught that many mice you need a professional. They'll multiply as quickly as you catch them

Dan, what is this poison? Do they eat it and fall over right next to it or do we have to search for the unfortunate ones?

It disintegrates???

Just the Decon or similar from Home Depot. They eat it and die back in the nests or wherever. We did not find any dead ones not in traps, but did see poison that had been eaten. We never did smell any decomposing, and if they did, we never saw any. Don;t know, other than some was eaten and between the traps and poison, no mice. :thumbsup2

Peppermint Oil!

I just saw a segment on the HSN with Suzanne Somers and she was talking about "natural" products. Somehow the subject got on how to rid your home of mice and she said, "Put peppermint oil around the baseboards. Mice will run like crazy from it"!

I have never tried it, but I would if necessary! :thumbsup2

Keep in mind there are thousands and thousands of mice out there, and many, many ways for them to get into your house. Whatever you do to get rid of the ones you have now, you've bigger problem is stopping the next wave from taking their place. Seal off whatever you can, and make sure there is no food they have access to.

Good luck,
Sal
