Mountain bikers, I need your help.

We are having a moving sale tomorrow.

DH only rides his road bike.

I am going to put his mountain bike out. We bought it new for just under $500 and it has barely been used. It's a Specialized HR Comp, size 19.

They guy at the local bike shop told me to ask $300. Do you really think I'm going to get that much at a garage sale or should I put it in the news that the MSU students read (they are the ones most likely to buy it.)

Don't have time to ebay it as we leave in under a few weeks.

Any help is appreciated.

I don't think that you will get $300 for the bike at your garage sale. I think that the better bet would be to put it in the paper for the MSU students. They will know what a good bike is and be willing to pay for it.

Have you thought about keeping it. My SIL put road tires on her mountain bike and that way she can take the kids for bike rides on the rail trail. I know that your DH is only riding his road bike right now but it's easier when taking the kids out to just use a mountain bike. Just a suggestion, but I don't know if I would sell it, you can always keep it for the kids to ride when they get older.

Put it out at the garage sale and put it in the paper. If you don't get $300 for it at the garage sale, you probably will from the paper. If people try to talk you down at the garage sale, just tell them it's $300 firm and let them know you've put it in the paper also. Nothing says you HAVE to sell it at the garage sale. Either way, you sell it.
