Does anyone know if there is a Thomas (or similar) train that will work on the regular Thomas tracks and with all the cars? My daughters love this, but are asking for a motorized one to go with the set. Is there such a thing?

We have a Brio one that came in a set with tracks.

We also have a Thomas with lights and sounds- it chugs when you move it along, and there is a button on top that makes his whistle noise.

Not sure about Thomas that's motorized.

For the wooden tracks, yes.

If I wasn't feeding my dd I'd take a picture of them all.

There is Thomas, Snowy Thomas, Percy, James (I think it is James), Bertie the bus & Lady alll are battery powered.

But I think we have 2 or 3 or 4 battery powered Thoms's.

We just got several new trains and told DH to pick up more AA baterries.

Good luck, we also found that the Tomy with the C cell go longer than the brio and they run on the wood tracks.

Do these all work on the tracks that the non-powered, regular Thomas trains come with? I can see spending the $$ to get a motorized one to pull along the others, but I would hate to have to spend $$$$$$$ to get a whole new track set up too!

There are 2 kinds of Thomas trains, the plastic kind & the wooden kind.

The plastic kind I see at Target & TRU as well as QVC or HSN.

Those trains are a bit smaller then the kind that run on the wooden track, which is blue I believe for the most part..

The wooden track trains are a bit bigger/wider. And yes they have battery powered ones too. I have bought them at TRU, Michaels & AC Moore & have got a few for free (not battery powered ones though).

They are the ones I mentioned in a post above but I do think I recall seeing another battery powered one for the wooden train track but I can't remember who it was.

Ok, thank you! There is an ACMoore 45 minutes away. I will go over this weekend and see what they have.

Learning Curve manufactures the wooden Thomas and Friends merch. There are several trains that are operated by a AA battery that are designed for the Learning Curve track. ACMoore carries them. Around here the ACMoore flyer comes out on Thursday's (tomorrow). It has a 40% off and sometimes 50% off coupon. That will save you some money. If you can't find a ACMoore coupon they accept Michaels and Joann coupons as well.

Yes, there are battery operated trains that work on the wooden tracks. There's quite a few different ones out now...Thomas, Percy, etc.

All the Thomas Wooden Railway battery-operated engines are compatible with the wooden track. Learning Curve (RC2) introduced the new traction style track, which is the type of track you are currently getting in the sets, to accommodate battery-operated engines. The older "clickety-clack" track (which I prefer) has been discontinued for several years. The battery-operated engines will work on that track as well. The packaging must say "Thomas Wooden Railway" however; not Tomy or Take Along Thomas.

B.O. Engines available:
Thomas
James
Percy
Lady
Salty
Bertie (retired)
Jet Engine
Snow-covered Thomas - released for the holidays
