motorcycle to WDW?

So DBF wants a bike- badly. I'm against it but it's not my life (he knows how I feel)

Today he found one that he loves and is waiting for them to come down in price (bargained down $1,500 hopefully they will take it).

He decided that instead of flying to WDW, we should ride the bike down

It's a 24 hour trip if you do it straight! Thats 2 days there and 2 days back He would have to drive the whole way of course.

I'm telling him that this would cut into MY WDW vacation but he says that the trip there and back is part of the adventure

He's never been to WDW before and he's going to make me happy. It's going to turn my 6 night wdw trip into a 10 day trip (I will not conceed about 6 nights at Disney). It's probably not going to save us much money either- an extra 2 hotel rooms on the road, tolls, gas, and food for four days. Wish me luck convincing him to fly and we can take a second vacation somewhere closer!

Anyone else do this? (How bad is the drive from NY to WDW????)

Before you agree to 24 hours on a bike, be sure to do some long road trips around home - in all kinds of weather.

Twenty fours hours on a crotch rocket, you'll be numb from the waist down. I don't think it's a very feasible journey. Hanging onto someone for 12 hours a day is not relaxing, let alone the passing trucks, bugs, weather. Personally, trailering is better and even auto train if they allow motorcycles would be great. Having the bike in Florida would be wonderful to get around, it's just the getting there thats a problem. As for saving money, yeas, gas wise, sanity and comfort wise, doubt it. Ease of getting around WDW, buses are free and do the job and we feel its part of the experience.

Yes, the AutoTrain does accept motorcycles.

DBF is seeing THIS post. I will be getting my way on this one

PS- Tickets from NY to MCO are probably around $400 round trip for the two of us as long as I catch a sale. So I doubt we are saving THAT much money.

I ride a sportbike, sometimes 300 miles a day in the NC mountains *but* I would not even consider riding it the 600 miles from NC to WDW!

I-95 is congested with people on cell phones who barely see my silver mininvan, much less a bike. Just when you think you are almost there, I-4 is even worse! Add in some rain & cold and it becomes just plain miserable.

Riding in FL is not much fun anyway, flat and straight. Tow the bike or ship it, is my suggestion.

I ride in FL constantly. In fact, I ride to WDW as much as possible.

That being said, I would not ride from NY to WDW, TOO long, TOO dangerous, TOO many stops for fuel, etc. You will not make the same time as driving a car.

The weather is way too unpredictable for a ride of that length and riding at 60-70 mph while wet, well you get the picture.

Now there is some nice riding down here, if DBF wants to ride while here, either trailer the bike or rent one down here.

Hubby did the trip a few years ago from NJ. He was on his honda 1100 and my dad was on his nice comfy honda goldwing... hubby had a sore rear for a few days lol
