Motion sickness

I know everyone is different but which rides cause the most motion sickness?

I'm fine on Soarin' but cannot do Star tours for example.

I will take dramamine but not sure if it will help.

Simpsons seem to be the overall worst for folks in general.

Forbidden Journey is another that folks complain about.

Dramamine doesn't help me, but a prescription for the patch you wear behind your ear (can't think of name) saves my life. Forbidden Journey is awful -- but it was fine for me with the patch. Also, Simpsons would've gotten to me without it I think. Anyway, nothing gets to me with my patch on.

Wow good to know about the patch! I will ask my doctor. DH has issues too so he will have to ask his doc if he wants to ride Simpsons since he used to love watching the show. He's kinda moved on from the show but DS 11 loves watching it so we can't wait to see that area too.

I agree with those two! I also "used" to love roller coasters until this motion sickness got worse. The Hulk was kind of iffy but I can ride the Mummy, Rip Ride Rockit and Gringotts without issue.

Yep, Simpsons is the worst for me...but, I am pretty sure it is because it is always so hot when I ride it...if they cooled the building better, I wouldn't get so queezy. It really dates back to Back to the Future...same building, same heat.

I am looking forward to Forbidden Journey's update. Three more weeks!!

I agree with @Angry Duck about the patch.

I tried taking 1/2 a meclazine that I have for vertigo but it just knocks me out. I switched to using the patch in the parks and I can ride anything without an issue.

Without the patch, FJ made me pretty green for a while. I skipped Spiderman, Transformers, and Simpsons. With the patch, I can ride any of those and everything is fine. I would be able to ride Spiderman and Transformers a few times in a row and be okay, but not Simpsons or FJ.

I tried Mission Space Orange once with the patch and I'll never do that again. It didn't make me ill, but I didn't want to do much for about 30 minutes. If I didn't have the patch on, that would have ended my day for sure.

Yep, Forbidden Journey and the Simpsons really got to me and I don't get motion sickness on any other type of simulator rides. I have read that they toned down Forbidden Journey so I am going to try it again in 10 days. Not planning to do the Simpsons ride again though. Good luck!

Scopolamine! I will shamelessly shill for scopolamine from here to Japan and back, because it has made my vacation life so much better than it used to be. I can ride on the subway! I can ride a double decker bus on the top floor! I survived a rainy ferry trip without yakking! I can read in a moving car! I actually got on a small boat that wallowed around the bayou for two whole hours and didn't feel nauseous at all!

(obviously I feel very passionate about this topic)

Only downside for me is that I get really thirsty while on the scopolamine patch, and under my current insurance they're not cheap. But my god it's worth it.

Not to derail your thread, but I hardly ever watch/watched The Simpsons and I *LOVE* the ride. I think DH will enjoy it as a fan of the show.

Oh yeah I think DH would love the ride. But he is worse with motion sickness than me. Like I can do coasters but sometimes he has a hard time with those.
I think we will definitely look into that patch!!

Another testimony to the beauty of the patch! (and mine was $50 for an Rx of 3/3 day patches with insurance) I can take dramamine, and it works pretty well, with minimal drowsiness; but the patch is best. I also am extremely thirsty, especially the first day, but it is so worth it. Even with the patch, I didn't go on Forbidden Journey. I will never ride that one again I was so sick the first time. Even made my pilot husband sick who never gets sick on anything. i would think that Mummy, Spiderman, Hogwarts Express, Fallon (!!), Minions, and Gringotts would have gotten to me without the patch. (I can ride Soarin' without it, but not Star Tours.) I didn't do Simpsons. Again, didn't want to push it and have never watched the show so why risk it? Without the patch, I did Spiderman and had to close my eyes a couple of times due to the motion. Fallon is pretty awful. Don't try it without something. Anything. There was vomit on the floor when we walked onto the ride vehicle.

I don't wear a patch at Disney at all, but I also will never get on Star Tours again. Even though I love Star Wars.

Oh, and Cat in the Hat spins a few times. As does Spiderman. Good to know if you don't handle spinning well. I was just fine with the patch.

Wow that's a lot of rides that cause motion sickness! I knew Universal had a lot of simulators though I guess. Well the patch is sounding like a must have. We have 2 days there and I don't want DH and I to spend the time sick.

Minions wasn't great for me either.
Dh sat out FJ the 2nd time but waited in the swap room. From there he could see many green, dizzy folks.
For the simulators, I do fine just closing my eyes occasionally.
Don't miss FJ. It's really cool.

I went on Star Tours a couple of years ago. I ended up being the rebel spy! BUT I had my eyes closed the entire time practically. I just couldn't handle it from the get go. I was sitting front row middle.

Since then my 3 kids go on it then my 2 younger ones use DH and my magic bands to go again since my oldest doesn't care to go twice anyway. We've done a lot of people watching sitting outside the dump shop there!

The first time I rode FJ, when it first opened, there was only one section that almost made me sick, it rode the line of fun/nausea for me. I've ridden it since and it's not that bad anymore. The Hulk was another coaster that rode the line, I haven't ridden it since the make over, but I suspect it's still the same.
RRR actually made me so ill that I ended up leaving the park early. However, I think that was because I was really too big to fit in the seat comfortably. The 'lap bar' closed so tight that I could only take short breaths.. and I think that had more to do with me getting sick than the ride itself. We'll see what happens in 4 months.. I am 70 lbs light and should fit a lot better in the seat
