Hello Everyone

I am planning a trip to WDW and recently saw a movie that reminded me "Oh no you've got motion sickness." I have not been on any rides in years. I do get carsick, seasick and can not play certain video games.

I am concerned that the rides at WDW will make me sick. I would hate to travel over 1000 miles and not be able to ride the rides. I have started to look into over the counter meds but I just hate taking something that could make me sleepy and out of it. When I do go out on the boat, I just stay outside and run off the boat at the end of the day. It takes me about another day to feel better.

I feel like such a pansy :( This will be our first trip as a family and I do not want my dd to remember it as "Mommy threw up on Mickey."

Has anyone tried the Bio-band. I am so terrified now of going to WDW. I do not know how I could have forgotten about the rides :( . If me riding the rides is not meant to be, that is fine, but I do want to ride them with my dd. I guess that I could also do a test run the first day and if I need to leave the park than I will not go on the rides again.

Any suggestions? :sad2:

Hello "Earning My Ears"

I too get motion sickness fairly easily although not so much in automobiles. My hubby and I go to Disney yearly. Last year I had to watch some of the "trigger" rides that trigger my episodes and eatting light in the morning helped (fruit, toast). I stayed away from Mission Space and Rockin Roller Coaster though since I knew they would ruin my entire day. Expedition Everest was okay but I would suggest a one-ride limit.

Soarin, which is my favorite ride, was a little tough but I made it through twice without getting ill. When I felt a little motion sickness coming on, I just closed my eyes and it seem to do the trick. If you are taking in any of the waterparks and you'll be riding the tubes, you'll need to be careful and eat light once again.

Wouldn't hurt for you to call your physician before you leave on your Disney trip to see what he/she suggest. Also, purchase a big bag of Archway Ginger Snap cookies and take them with you. Ginger is a natural cure for motion type of illnesses. Study up on it; it really helped me and you can carry some ginger snaps in a baggie with you in your purse or bookbag and eat them throughout your days in the park.

When all is said and done, you know your own threshold. Don't try to push it beyond limits. If you need to sit a ride out, sit it out and offer to run and get frozen lemonade or waters. It is better to sit a ride out, than be laid out in First Aid which will worry your family and ruin everyone's vacation.

Best wishes for a great trip!:yay:

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I am still nervous. I am sure that you can understand, it is the fear of the unknown. My dr is good but not much bedside manner. He offered to write me a script but the most common side effect is drowsiness. Thank you again.

My DH has motion sickness and stays away from: Dinosaur and EE at AK, Space Mountain at MK, Soarin' and Mission Space at Epcot, and Star Tours, RocknRoller Coaster and Tower of Terror at the Studios. What we do is the kids come on with me (although I won't do RocknRoller Coaster and ToT) and he relaxes outside, watching our stuff. He doesn't mind, because we have fun and he doesn't get sick! His main issue is simulated movement, but is also wary of other kinds of fast movement and hills. By the way, I believe Gravol makes a new type made out of ginger, and I think it doesn't make you drowsy. You might want to look into it. HTH!

Dh doesnt get motion sickness but has vertigo and b/c of that he steers clear of only a couple of rides: Rockin Roller Coaster and Mission to Mars. Now, Mission to Mars has 2 levels but he still doesn't chance it. Everything else is fairly steady and thats what would cause his vertigo. I would think the Tower of Terror would be fine but I would steer clear of Soarin if I were you, even though it seems fairly calm to most if you get motion sickness it might kick in during this ride.

I have severe motion sickness,, I avoid.. certain rides no matter what.. but I would without taking or doing anything get completely sick on Dumbo.. So I take Bonine and it works fantastic without sleepiness.. you can take up to 2 in 24 hour you can take 2 at once but I take it 1 hour before I leave the resort and right around dinner time.. I can ride just about everything I would want to.. however I still avoid,, completely,, soarin, mission space, star tours, and anything of a roller coaster nature but I hate roller coasters anyways so I wouldn't even try them without one.. but you will be able to do all that the younger kids do.. even the circular motion rides such as dumbo aladin and the merry go round.. which those I think were the worst for me I'd be out of commission for 10 days.. Don't drink caffine stay hydrated. and yes ginger as well.. on top of it all.. just in case.. good luck

I too have motion sickness. I used to be able to handle it but not any more. The good news is, although you may have to avoid some attractions there is MUCH else you can do. Personally, I found the teacups and Mission Space (the original version) the worst. This is followed by EE (the backwards part) and BTMRR. I can handle RR and Space Mt. if I only go once. TOT no problems! Even if you don't do everything, you will have a really good time!

Thank you all so much. I am feeling a bit more at ease about going to WDW. I plan on skipping all the "round and around rides." I can handle roller coasters (I think). I wrote down the list of rides that I should avoid and I guess I will just need to play it by ear. Perhaps I should go see "Cloverfield" again but this time take a Bonnie and see if it helps :)

Thank you all so much for your help. :grouphug: Ginger Ale, Bonnie and some Ginger Snaps are on my list now.

oops, hit Quote by mistake. There are plenty of rides and attractions that you should not have a problem with. Only a dozen maybe (already listed) so you should have plenty to do with your family. Besides, those dozen usually have the longest lines, so you save yourself from those lines.

Some of the over-the-counter meds have side effects for people like me -- especially for people who have glaucoma.

One of the best things that I have found out for myself -- and quite natural to boot -- is Ginger. You can find ginger capsules at most health food stores or on the internet. Take ginger and your motion sickness may well be a thing of the past.

And the nicest thing about it is there are no apparent side effects, except for the occasional ginger burp. :)

When I went on my trip the World, I had my doctor right a prescription for me. It's a patch and you place it behind your ear. It didn't make me tired at all! I even rode space mountain!
