Motion sickness what helps?

We are going to Disney World and Universal Studios next month and I want to ride on as many rides as possible however, I get motion sickness from any dizzy ride. I'm fine on an airplane but when it comes to rides they make me nauseous and then I feel like crap the rest of the day. Space mountain was horrible for me.
My question to any of you who has taken anything for motion sickness what works?
1. The patch - how well did it work? Did you have any side effects? How many days did you use it?
2. Ginger Pills - how well did i work? Did you go on crazy rides?
3. Bonine - how well did it work? Did you have any side effects?

Your feedback is appreciated!

Thank you
Mindy
I have had luck with less drowsy dramamine and a little caffeine to offset medication. Also, a salty snack (think potato chips) and orange essence will help settle your stomach if need be.

What kind of patch? OTC does nothing. I go for the big guns (prescription, scopolamine, not covered by my insurance). It helps with the plane ride and on a cruise, as long as the seas aren't too rough. But on the plane, oh my goodness, I read a book! I've never been able to read on a plane. It didn't really help when I tried Mission Space other than the queasiness didn't last all day, so that was nice.

I just bought the relief band. The one that shocks the medial nerve. Has this worked for anyone?

I used Motion Eaze...you put a couple of drops behind your ears in the morning and off you go. It does have an interesting odor when you first put it on but it goes away quickly and doesn't linger.

I am very sensitive to motion, I even get nauseous if I lay over 10 minutes on a float in my pool. Here is my feedback:

1. I thought about trying the patch but I've got so many allergies I didn't want to risk a reaction on vacation.
2. Ginger works wonders! That's what I always use. I still can't ride teacups comfortably and I'll get a little queasy if I do Star Tours or Dinosaur twice in a row but other wise it's great. Absolutely no side effects.
3. Bonine/Dramamine don't do much for me and make me super drowsy.

Also, I've been taking Zyrtec daily for the last 4 years or so, and in the last couple of years I have noticed my motion sickness get somewhat better.

I use the Scop patch, and leave the last one on for a few days after returning home so I can adjust.

I get pretty severe motion sickness. I can't swing on a swingset without feeling sick. And suffered severe morning (all day) sickness while pregnant which my doctor said often goes hand in hand.

Sea Bands and ginger do nothing for me.
Zofran will keep me from actually vomiting, but does nothing for the nausea itself and tends to make me dizzy.
Dramamine makes me too drowsy so I haven't used it in years.
The patch I only had once after waking from surgery. Hard to say what worked. They had trouble waking me and then I was extremely sick from anesthesia and pain meds, so they kept giving me meds until it subsided. The patch was the last of several things they tried. I don't remember having side effects, but had so many other meds in me it's hard to know.
Bonine is what I use in the parks and it works pretty well. It doesn't make me drowsy and it cuts the nausea down to a tolerable level, but it doesn't completely eliminate it. That said there are still rides I avoid out of worry that they will be too much to handle, like Star Tours, Space Mountain, the Tea Cups, etc. But I can do Test Track, Soarin', BTMRR, 7DMT, Dinosaur and a few others that cause motion sickness.

Everyone is so different it's hard to know what will work for you. But I'd suggest trying something before your trip just to make sure you tolerate it.

I used the patch on my last trip, and already have it for my trip next month. It worked very well for me. I’m one who would get nauseous on the bus ride, and I had no problems at all. You wear it for 3 days before you change it, and it is prescription. I didn’t really notice any bad side effects.
Ugh I can wear the patch on a cruise but not walking around on dry land. I found I had double vision and some other side effects that are escaping me at the moment. It was probably 10 years ago when I tried to wear the patch at Disney.

Just used it this week during our trip. I am sorry to report that it did absolutely nothing for me despite the $80 price tag. I even had the device turned all the way up to the max setting. I’m a pharmacist so I am familiar with every motion sickness remedy. The only thing that really works for me is avoiding the rides that cause motion sickness. I do hope you have better luck, as I imagine it works for some people.

Ugh-the older I get the worse it gets!
I've used Bonine-great for the flight down, but at WDW it makes me so tired so I only take it the first day.
And no booze with this stuff, right?

Alcohol will enhance the drowsiness, so tread carefully, and best to avoid all together. Peak effect occurs 3 hrs after taking the dose. Should fully clear your system in 24 hrs.

Transdermal Scop (the prescription patch)

we are taking some of the Dramamine this time. My hubs hasn't needed anything before but he's hoping this can help when he feels just a little dizzy and hopes it will work for fop, sorrin and star tours (only the three he thinks he may have issues with)
