My DD10 & I went to an IMAX theater show today and both were quesy during and after. With that in mind, what rides whould we definetley avoid during aour trip to WDW?

Hmmmm, right off the top of my head comes Mission Space...anything that spins would cause motion sickness.. teacups, Body Wars, Star Tours...a lot of the rides have signs that say that those who suffer from motion sickness, might want to stay away.

I've never rode Mission Space for that very reason. My mother, DH and DS all beg me to ride but I just don't want to be sick all day. I can do Star Tours as long as I squint my eyes. I have to close my eyes in the end of Buzz Lightyear when you are supposed to be time warping.

add me too to the group of motion sick ride lovers. me & my fiance tried startours on our last trip because i hadnt gone on since i was like 8 & thought maybe i would be ok, wrong, we were both sick afterwards & left the park for a nap, i was sick for the rest of the day. so needless to say i've never experienced gforce on mission space.

motion sick rides for me are startours, bodywars, missionspace along with buzzlightyears ranger spin even though the ride is fun, the teacups, dumbo & the magic carpet make me nausius. i also get motion sick on the plane & long car rides so dramamine is my friend i cant travel without it.

hi ... i frequently get motion sick
body wars and star tours KILL me
never attempted mission space ... coz i figure if they're handing out barf bags - there's a problem

but that said --- i did fine on Soarin'
the first inital lift-off is like "whoa" but after that i was good

definitely give Soarin a chance ... it is amazing

oh ... some of the simulator type things at DisneyQuest (aladdin and the raft one) made me a little whoozy too but not pirates at DQ pirate:

have fun :wave2:

Many people with motion sickness cannot handle coasters with corkscrews (though loops are usually fine). For that reason I can't do Rock and Roller Coaster (because of the corkscrew). Let's see. Other rides that I can't do: Body Wars, Star Tours, I also have to close my eyes during that one part of Buzz Lightyear, Mission Space, Primeval Whirl.

But more importantly, rides that I CAN do despite motion sickness: kali river rapids, tower of terror, thunder mountain, test track, splash mountain, space mountain, others that i can't think of right now.

I only get sick on spinning rides so I'm not sure howI let myself get talked into Mission Space. Two bags later I vowed NEVER again!
If you do Soarin or Star tours , would it help to just close your eyes or does that make it worse like on Missiion Space?

With Soarin and Star tours I just have to watch the movie. Dont' look anywhere else, as you I got very sick on MS. NEVER again for me too. I can do Star Tours and Soarin just have to be careful.

I haven't done Soarin yet, but i hear it's ok even if you have motion sickness. I can just manage Star Tours if i keep my eyes shut tight. But i'm still a wee bit queesy afterwards. Body Wars is totally off limits, eyes open or shut.

If you go over to universal there are lots of rides that are off limits. Even Men in Black has a spin at the end that was bad news for me. And forget all the simulator rides (like back to the future and spiderman)

One ride not mentioned that got me by suprise was astro orbiter. It doesn't look that bad, but it really made me sick. I skip tea cups completely. Primevil whirl almost got me, but it is short enough I made it through.

I haven't done MS, but half way through star tours I had to close my eyes and closing my eyes did help me feel better(and not puke on the poor person next to me). MS is suppose to be different and closing your eyes makes it worse!

i haven't done mission space, but my husband went on it with our son.
My son was fine, but my husband, who rarely gets motion sickness, was a bit queasy afterwards. So he didnt' go on it again and my son goes on alone (using the single riders line) while the 3 of us play in that waiting area where you get off the ride.

by the way, my husband (and son for that matter) can ride rock and roller coaster repeatedly without feeling sick. I think he's ridden it 4 times in a row, with no ill effects.

I've never gone on rock and roller coaster because of the corkscrew. My daughter did go on it once and had to go back to the hotel for the rest of the day. Corkscrews and motion sickness are a bad mix.

I never ride anything with the motion sickness warnings, but last week I did Star tours, Soarin and Test track. I was fine on all three. did not attempt Mission Space, my DS's told me not to. However, the 360 degree movie in Canada made me dizzy and nauseous. Also, watch out for the movies in China and France!

If IMAX makes you sick, then chances are you won't handle simulation rides very well. Stay away from:

Star Tours
Body Wars
Mission: Space
Honey, I Shrunk the Audience
A Bug's Life

I think you'll be fine on Soarin' though, it's very mild. How you handle the rollercoasters is completely different, though and you'll have to wait and see. Personally, I think Splash Mountain is tamer than Big Thunder Mountain even though BTMR is considered the least scary. The drops on SM go by really quickly, whereas BTMR goes up and down really fast the whole time.

About the IMAX experience: Had you just eaten a greasy or heavy meal before the show or did you have a lot of soda while there? The visuals are a factor but don't forget that what's in your stomach is also a huge factor. People don't usually think about that before they watch a movie since they're just going to be sitting still. If you are careful about what you eat and drink in the hour or two before trying a ride, you may find you'll be okay.

I can't do IMAX or 360 degree movies, but It's Tough to be a Bug is perfectly fine.
Honey I shrunk the Audience is also ok (except when they pick up the theatre, then i have to close my eyes).

As for Astro Orbiter, absolutely a no no for me. I even get dizzy on cinderella's golden carousel.
Aladdin's Magic Carpets one was ok. I only felt slightly nauseated when I got off, but i wouldn't do it again. I did it once just to see how it was.

And that reminds me, Timekeeper in the Magic Kingdom, another 360 and I have to keep my eyes closed the entire time. But I love the robot so it's fun (when it's open).

and since we're talking about things going around in circles, the carousel of progress is fine.

Thanks for all the replies. Usually I can spin on rides. We had just eaten lunch - nothing heavy, but it was right before the movie. I'll avoid all the 360 degree movies and give Soarin' a try I think. I had never considered Mission Space - barf bags sealed that one for me. Thanks everyone!

I find I have more trouble on a really warm day as well.

I will never again do Star Tours, Body Wars, Mission Space, Teacups.

I will do (with a bonine tablet or two) Big Thunder, Soaring, Primeeval Whirl, Dinosaur, TOT, RNR.

I dislike Space Mountain and probably won't ride it but it is because it seemed too bumpy for my tastes.
