Hi all:

I have been reading the threads with great interest for some months. We are going to have 2 days at Universal next month - never been and SO excited!

I am a bit concerned about motion sickness on the Harry Potter ride. I have watched youtube videos and have become alarmed at the reports of people feeling queezy and worse ! on the ride and don't want that to be me. We are planning to go at rope drop on both mornings and I am nervous I'll spend the rest of my day feeling grinchy green.

Is it a concern for lots of folks - I am fine on Soarin but have to close my eyes at the omnimax and imax theatres if there's a lot of movement. I watched the youtube of the Simpsons ride and that looked nausea invoking.

Help!

Kelli

Kelli, how are you on Star Tours? If you are fine, you'll be fine on FJ.

Remember that you can always close your eyes as soon as the simulation part starts. Just briefly open one eye every few seconds to see if that part is over. It is just quidditch and you won't be missing much.

Taking some kind of motion sickness medication helps. Try the "less drowsy" dramamine that is available in the US. You can't get it in Canada.

Hey Damo:

I don't know! I didn't ever ride Star Tours. My daughter did though, a bazillion times. I'd be afraid to take medication because I have to have a clear head.

I guess closing my eyes might be my only option...I wish I could quit stressing about it.

What you can try are the ginger tablets that are made by Gravol. They do help.

If you are riding with someone else, just have them tap you when the simulation parts are done.

I know for me personally Star Tours was horrible! I almost threw up in the ride! I also didn't take anything for motion sickness beforehand and I haven't been on it since(I really didn't think it was so great anyways). We will be there next week and I just picked up some Dramamine this morning at Walmart, I will be prepared this time because there seems to be alot of simulator rides at Universal.

Ginger pills have worked very well for me. I would suggest that you take some with you.

We've been on all the Universal rides (except for Hollywood Rip Rockit and the new ones at WWOHP) and the only time I got motion sick was when I rode both the Dueling Dragons back to back (and I mean less than 2 mins gap in between).

I'll start by saying I haven't been on FJ and not sure if I will yet ... Star Tours made me uber sick, yet I'm OK with Soarin', Mission Space and even the Simpson's and Spider-Man. I think it all depends on the individual.

Oh! See, that's what I'm worried about. Have a great time and pls post back to let us know how you managed! Excited for you!

You move a lot more than on startours...but I, and more importantly my wife who gets sick easily, found fj to be simply awesome...a bit of nausea but nothing to make either of us from doing it 2-3 times each. The movements are more smooth than the jerking & jolting that startours had. That being said, the simpsons ride made multiple adults in our party sick to the point of torture.

I find that if I feel ill on FJ, it ends as soon as I get off the ride. Other simulators have a much more lasting effect on me.

GREAT news about FJ ! Not so good about the simpsons. Well, I'm much more excited for FJ!

Thanks!

Thanks, I'm sure it will be great! I will definately let you know how it goes. I think for me it's the video screen or something because I can't watch most home movies(especially ones my dh filmed, he can never keep the camera straight;)) and I remember almost tossing my cookies when I went to see the Blair Witch Project many years ago. Too much camera shaking:sick:

Chewy ginger candy works very well too. (the all natural kind, you can find them at Whole Foods, etc.) If you do the ginger pills, it's best to start taking them the day before you ride. I get bad motion sick and with taking the ginger I only got slightly queasy and that went away as soon as we were off. We rode it three times in a row too!

There didn't seem to be much "swooping" on FJ, I think if folks can handle Soarin' they would be fine on FJ but I'm not sure. I had no troubles on FJ, but then I was OK on Simpson's too. I just have to stay clear of spinning rides.

I did not care for FJ. It made both myself and my dad nauseated. My dad is an avid roller coaster rider so I was surprised he had issues. We rode all the rides at USO and only the FJ ride in IOA made us feel queasy, headache, etc.

Glad I road FJ once, wont be doing it again!

I am usually okay on Soarin and Star Tours; a little dizzy but not too bad. I was so excited to try FJ and took a Dramamine in the morning for our airplane flight down to Orlando and then a Meclizine pill around 1 pm when we headed over to the IOA. I was so determined that I was going to enjoy FJ. But I couldn't handle it. As soon as the flying started I started to feel incredibly dizzy and shaky. I closed my eyes, and would periodically during the ride peek out, but would immediately feel terrible, so they remained shut for almost the whole ride. The *motion* of the seat did not bother me at all, I don't think, I thought that was so fun when it tilted all the way back! But I was shaking when the ride finally ended and realized as we exited that I was drenched in a cold sweat. I was disappointed but I felt like I gave it my best shot.

Usually I'm the ride wimp, whereas my husband is the roller coaster fiend. I have never known him to get sick on a ride. I don't get sick either, I just don't care for really rough coasters. Anyway, August 29th-Sept 4th I made a solo trip to Universal and fell in love with FJ. I made early morning hours every day and rode FJ over and over every day using the single rider lines. I averaged at least 7 and usually 10 back to back rides every day. I did take a Meclizine every day just as a preventative because I was riding it back to back repeatedly every day. Never once did I get sick. My husband and I went to WDW Oct 9th-17th and went over to Universal two days. Before leaving I insisted he take a Meclizine. At first he laughed and said he didn't need it and never got sick on any ride, but he finally caved in took it. We went straight to FJ. That is the first time I have ever seen my husband green. I have never seen a ride bother him, but FJ made him sicker than a dog. He got to feeling better later in the day so tried it again, with the same result.:confused3 He decided that the problem was being cause by some sinus medicine he started a few days before we left, so stopped taking it. We went back over to Universal three days later and again we both took a Meclizine, but again the ride threw him for a loop. He didn't throw up, but did feel nauseated most of the morning. I went back that afternoon, after he was feeling better, and rode it three more times through the single rider lane, while he rode Dueling Dragons. I couldn't believe he could handle Dueling Dragons without any problems, but FJ knocked him for a loop.:confused3 Star Tours, Soarin', even the orange side of Mission Space doesn't bother him, but FJ for some reason he couldn't handle, whereas repeated back to back rides don't bother me and I see nothing in it that should bother him. He said that all three times he rode it, he got sick as soon as the benches took off through the floo network.

Happy to report nobody in my party felt sick from FJ!! I've gotten off the Simpsons and Dueling Dragons in the past and thought I was goign to lose it. Both my son and I did take a less drowsy dramamine each night we were there. I LOVED the ride!! :cloud9:
