Does anyone have any suggestions for my DH who has terrible motion sickness? He feels ill on rides that spin (like teacups), jostle him (like Dinasaur & Test Track) or are simulators (Body Wars/Star Tours). He once rode Star Tours and was sick for about 12 hours. He would like to ride everything if he didn't get sick.

He won't take Dramamine because it makes him too sleepy.

Bonine (Meclizine) works for me, and it doesn't make me drowsy. I take just one a day.

I bought bonine for our cruise but never had to use it. I have heard that it works great and doesn't make you tired.

Personally, I would avoid rides that can cause motion sickness, bonine or not. It's not worth ruining his (and your) day for a ride. If he does ride something that could cause problems, I would ride at the end of the day just in case.

I take ginger root. I get it at whole foods, their brand, one pill three times a day. If I am going to be in the parks and want to ride some of the crazier rides a take a dramamine (non-drowsy version) when I get up in the morning.

I do pretty good. Keeps the stomach pretty calm.

I agree - stay away from MIssion:Spew, I mean, Space!

I do Bonine & Compazine - Compazine is a RX anti-naseau. I have found over time tho, that I don't need it so much anymore. I have ridden everything but M:S & ToT without any drug since I built up my tolerance to rides.

If your DH suffers extreme Motion Sickness, I suggest he talk to his Docotr about a RX strength medicine. I know they make them for folks for flying/cruising etc......

if he gets extreme motion sickness then i'd say his best bet is to just stay off the rides. most medications for motion sickness will make you drowsy....which stinks for vacations. keep him far away from Mission:Space!

My DH also is very prone to motion sickness. He could just look at the teacups and that would make him sick. However my Dr. prescribed the patch for him. This is the patch they prescribe for cruising. He puts them on and they last for 3 days at a time. They are waterproof as well. Let me tell you they worked for us!!! My DH rides everything now! As Aladin would say it is
"A WHOLE NEW WORLD"!! He even rode Mission Space last year and was fine.
Good Luck, and have a great Disney Vacation!!

Does he know that Dramamine makes a "less drowsy" formula? Doesn't make me tired at all.

Before I went on a cruise a couple years ago, my doctor gave me a prescription for Phenergan (the lowest dose possible) and I've taken them when going to a theme park. I discovered that a whole tablet made me sleepy, but a 1/2 tablet did the trick and I wasn't sleepy. I'm planning to take it with me in October. I will NOT, however, ever ride the teacups!

I usually get deathly ill on rides that spin or go upside down, but I got a Rx for the patch and was able to ride Mission Space and RnRC with no problems at all! Very few side effects either.

Electronic Relief Band for Motion & Sea Sickness

Costs about $80 but compared to a vacation you don't enjoy not too bad. Worked like a charm for my BIL, nd he is a Dr. I'm going to try it on MS this fall.
