hi everyone,

we have to change our cruise because of DH work commitments. Anyway, we had deck 6 near mid ship elevators. next available cruise its room 6528 right next to forward elevators. calling out to all who get motion sickness [i do not so hard for me to decide]...would there be a big difference in the feeling here. anyone have any bad expierances in this area?

thanx everyone

Hi, sorry to hear you had to change your cruise. We have had to do that too.
After 12 cruises for us the worst motion was any room forward.
Midship, lower decks had less motion than any where else on board.
We usually book AFT because of the convenience and it does have some motion, but we still think the front of the ship had the most motion.

We have never suffered from motion sickness but we still are very aware of the ships motion.
I wish you the best in your selection,

Try for smack middle of ship 6580 or thereabouts.
I get really sick-have had 6598, 6586 and 6580 -not one problem.

Out of our family of 14, 4 get severe motion sickness. Not sure how I talked them into cruising in the first place. They had deck 1 and 2 mid-ship. They all slept like babies. The only time one got sick is at Palo because we were out to sea, it's on deck 10 and at the back of the ship. She took a nap and was fine. One got sick because she felt so good that she stopped taking her Bonine. She started back up and was fine.

We were far forward on the Magic, second deck, and could definitely feel motion, but Dramamine took care of it.

I've been told by my doctor that being at the back of the ship and on a lower deck helps with the motion sickness.

Middle and middle is the best for no motion sickness. Also, not going during a hurricaine, LOL. Bad experience with this. I get motion sickness and have twice been in the middle on deck 6 and didn't have any trouble. Was once on deck 2 in the far back and it was very rocky so I am not quite sure how the low part works although I have heard that low and middle is the best.

We had a room booked midship for our upcoming cruise. Bless her heart, our TA thought that would be most desireable but I made her change it because we actually LOVE the rocking motion of the ship. Apparently the DCL rep was most confused when she called to change it. The best sleep I've ever gotten was on a cruise. We're now Aft because the Forward staterooms were full. I can't wait to be rocked to sleep!

Take a model of a ship (or even a rectangular piece of wood) and place it on your finger or pencil, tip it forward and back (similar to a teeder-todder (sp?) ). You will notice that the front of the ship and back of the ship move much more than the part on your finger. Further, for the back and front to go up that much, you will notice that the top of the model moves more than the bottom. As you go further out, the more movement. Think of the teeder-todder again. Put a 6' board on it and move it up and down 3'. Now put a 12' board on and have the spot at 3' from the middle go up and down 3'. The ends of the board go up and down much further.

These concept holds true in side to side movement as well. Even as the movements get bigger up top, you don't need much movement at the bottom.

So middle of the ship is the first place to start and then if you don't want or need a balcony, then go lower to reduce movement.

i was told by a cm that the front of the boat has a more up and down motion while the back has the more back and forth swing-always try to get closest to the middle if you have a choice.

We've sailed 5 times and the worst is definately the front of the ship....we were in 6528 last sailing and DW is the only one that gets motion sickness.....and she felt it......level 6 aft is our preference.......

if people do not normally experience motion sickness in the car or on small boats, do they usually feel sick on the big cruise ships? I can't do motion simulators, but don't generally get motion sickness.

TIA, Kathie

I was wondering the same thing.

I've never experienced motion sickness until my past cruise.
(I can sleep in cars, do rides, small boats, etc)

We were AFT and loved it - the only time I felt sick or dizzy was when watching the shows, which is forward on the Wonder. Shopping the stores, shows, etc. I would feel very dizzy. My DS 11 even got ill that first night we were about to enter the theatre.

If you feel like you might, I would suggest mid ship or aft.

I get car sickness and i always get sick on the ship so i believe that you would if you do in cars.

I get very sea sick and have tried staterooms in the back, middle and front of the ships on past cruises. I was perfectly fine the entire cruise we were mid- ship. I did get sick, even with taking Bonine, in the back and front staterooms of the ship. On our May 2006 cruise, we were in 6508...3 or 4th from the front and the bed faces backwards from the way we were traveling.
we thought we'd save money with just a port hole and skip the verandah. Never again. I felt every bit of motion and got really sick our first 2 days at sea. Luckily my parents were also cruising and I stayed in their midship room until I felt better. On our next 2 cruises we have scheduled mid -ship rooms.

This is another point that is seldom mentioned in threads addressing the best cabin location [forward, midships, aft/upper, mid, lower decks]. Although we prefer aft and lower deck cabins, we have noticed a difference between cabins where they face forward or aft. I do much better in cabins with the beds facing forward rather than cabins where the beds face aft.

Who would have thunk?
