Motion Sickness Dramamine or...

What is the name of the other otc drug available for motion sickness? is it Mecalazine(sp). Is this available over the counter?? I seem to remember getting this a couple of years ago but cannot remember the name. I was sure it was Mecalazine but my friend insists that requires a prescription.

Bonine is another one. I only use dramamine when I want to sleep on a plane. I used bonine on a cruise ship (just in case) and I liked it and felt much more "normal" with it than when I take dramamine. Not that I have issues with motion sickness, I just use the one to help me relax on a long plane ride. I also know that Bonine is good for 24 hours so you only have to take it once a day

I believe that Meclazine is the generic name for motion sickness medicine. If you get a prescription, this is usually what it will say on the bottle or it will list the brand name "Antivert".

I'm not sure what the drug is in Dramamine. It may be meclazine at a lower dose.

In case you were wondering, they also make a non-drowsy dramamine. I used it on my cruise and I think it works well. I take the regular dramamine during flights to help me sleep

I believe that non drowsy Dramamine is made with Mecalazine. Same with Bonine. You may want to check the cruise board, motion sickness remedies are often discussed there.

I also use Bonine and I agree one lasts all day.

I can't go on any spinning rides or rides like Star Tours without getting sick for the rest of the day. With Bonine I did Misson Space without even a slight headache.

Well, I guess your friend is correct. I just googled Dramamine and the active ingredient is "dimenhydrinate."

I buy Meclazine over the counter all the time. I am the Queen of motion sickness. It is not all that easy to find. I get mine at a HyVee pharmacy.

My last trip, I used the prescription patch and it was so great!

Just be wary that if you do take Dramamine then avoid alcohol. The two don't mix well at all!

Bonine makes me jittery. I use less drowsy Dramamine, which lasts for 24 hours, with no problems.

I've used all of them...Dramamine, Dramamine II and Bonine. Of the three, Bonine is the one that made me less drowsy and light headed.

I take one before I go to bed and I'm fine the next day.

I read, on these boards and others, that you can buy Meclazine cheap (like $4 for 100 pills) but I asked my pharmacist about buying Meclazine and was told that here in NJ you need a prescription for it. He told me to buy Bonine.
