Okay DH and I head to WDW in 10 days for our belated Honeymoon! Just us and he is a daredevil for rides! I am a chicken with the added gift of extreme motion sickness! I have tried the scopalamine patches and will take them with the problem is they give me blurred vision /dry mouth/ stomach pain if worn greater than a few hours. Has anyone tried taking dramamine or bonine just to ride rides ? Did it work? I want to have fun but I don't want to pay for it by puking and being out of commission for hours! Have you tried any combinatin of things or herbals that worked with few or no side effects? I can't be the only one! :scared: :confused3 :scared1:

bonine worked great for me. no sleepyness.

dramamine (even the non drowsy formula) made me sleepy.

i took the bonine each day at breakfast and had no problems.

still to chicken to try MS though. perhaps on our next trip but only at the end of the day - incase i do get sick, it won't ruin the entire day.

I recently survived a deep sea fishing trip using the Sea Band
product. Sea Bands are two wrist bands similar to sweat bands
but with a protruding button that applies pressure to a pressure
point in the wrist. I had my doubts, but this is the first deep sea
trip where I did not get sea sick.

I've tried all remedies mentioned above, and I've found I have to take 2 Bonine and it helps get me through. Just taking one didn't work for me. Dramamine makes me zombie-like. And I never could completely trust the sea bands even though I used to wear them for every flight I took - I'd still take a bonine. If you discovered the sea bands weren't working - it's a little too late to take something!

Unfortunately, there is nothing that works really well for me, so I have assigned myself to only get on "safe" rides. There is nothing worse that nausea on vacation!

Bonine and non-sleepy Dramamine have the same active ingredient. They knock me and my DH out for 24 hours. Not good! I've never tried regular dramamine, but I assume that it would be as bad if not worse.

Ginger seems to help a lot, especially to my motion sickness prone husband. We took 1-2 1000 mg concentrated ginger capsules every day. One afternoon I started feeling sick and took a ginger capsule and I felt fine in probably 15 minutes (of course maybe I would have anyway, but I wasn't going to complain or question :teeth: ). We bought our ginger at GNC.

I've tried the Seabands and they didn't seem to help, but they don't hurt and are worth a try.

My DH asked the dr about the patches before our trip and the dr laughed at him--said that if he got motion sickness he should just not go on the rides. Um, he wanted to ride the rides, that was the purpose of going. DUH! Anyone know of a good dr in my area? ;)

Whatever you try, make sure that you do a trial run of it at home just in case it doesn't agree with you.

Thanks everyone! The only thing I haven't tried is the ginger capsules! They are worth a shot! I' ll have to experiment with them, but I don't think MS is in my future! I did make it through Thunder Mountain Railroad with the patches last time!

Don't be so sure about M:S. My DH has gotten to be so sensitive to motion that he couldn't do any ride with spinning. Teacups type rides were out, along with Men in Black at Universal. This is something that has gotten worse within the last couple years. We went to Hershey Park this summer and he sat out a lot (and it was his birthday :( ).

After taking ginger he was able to ride M:S and after the first time he got off and argued that the ride did not spin. He'd followed the directions to look forward and not close his eyes very closely. He went on it another time that day and we went another time a different day. This from a guy who almost didn't even attempt it--turned out to be a favorite of his.

When I went in February without ginger I felt somewhat sick (fine within a few minutes), but this trip with the ginger not sick at all. A little dizzy walking off, but not sick.

If you do ride M:S make sure you follow all the directions about looking forward.
