motion sickness and FJ?

I went on FJ and I am sad to say that I was really ill Not actually sick but very nauseous and dizzy afterwards and this lasted into the next day (we rode at 8pm). I had taken travel sickness medication.

I would hate to put anyone off from doing the ride though, as despite being ill I am still glad I did it so I could talk to DS about it I am also very badly prone to motion sickness and this was the night after our arrival from the UK so we were pretty tired which didn't help.

As for height - the ride broke down when we were on it (luckily we were upright and it gave me a bit of a break from the nausea and we all commented on how high up we seemed to be. However when the ride was moving I didnt really have a sensation of height, except virtually through the simulation.

Oh man, reading this has me so torn!

We'll be at Universal five days and I really wanted to try FJ (thinking surely there would be a perfect time in those five days to try it) but, I'm so very prone to motion sickness I can't handle anything worse than BTMR......hmm maybe I'll just skip it and have a cauldron cake instead.

I am leaning towards no way am I riding it. I suffer from positional vertigo and do not want to take any chances. Bummer

I'll take my Bonine night before and day of. Suck on ginger, mints, wear a sea band, whatever, but I AM riding Forbidden Journey at least once. Is there a trash can on the exit ramp?!?

I can remember riding Back to the Future in the early 90's and being so sick after getting off that ride. Read in the WSJ a few weeks later that they had called in a ride doctor because the film was off from the motion.

Doesn't the motion sickness medicine make you sleepy during the day?

They have non-drowsy versions (ex Bonine) that don't affect me nearly as much as the regular Dramamine. Definitely take it before your trip to see how it affects you though. Sure wouldn't want to be napping while the family is having fun!

I think if you've done M:S (orange side) and didn't have any problems, you should be OK on FJ.

is star tours or body wars a good comparison to fj as far as the motion/effect is concerned? i haven't been to universal so comparisons to those rides don't help me understand. i've gotten sea-sick before so i'm a little leary about what i'm reading here . . .

Not really. Think Soarin' on steroids -- the screens are much larger and you're floating out over them. Soarin's not a great comparison either, but it's a better comparison than Star Tours or Body Tours -- you're not in an enclosed vehicle staring at a small(ish) screen, you're being sent out over a large screen and you feel very open and immersed.

I too was a bit nervous as I am getting older things seem to affect more than they used to.

I took a meclizine before going to bed the night before and then I took 2 the morning we headed to IOA. I am happy to say I had no trouble at all. In fact all day I was able to ride everything including Forbidden Journey several times and did not feel sick at all.

The rest of my week I just took one every morning and didn't have any issues.
