Motion sick?

With Soarin opening, I really want to try it, but I know these kind of movies bother me. I am going to try it, but have yet to actually get "sick" on a ride. Just worried, has this ever happened to you? How was it handled? Do they help at all? Or will I be wiping off the other riders after the ride? Plan to take my usual precautions: no eating before, close eyes if too extreme, dizzy, have empty bag at the ready just in case. I have rode mission space, test track, and coasters etc.. . but these kind of movies are worse for me? I stay out of Paris and china? The sweeping vista's really bother me, so I am concerned about soarin'. Not the "swing" part the movie part.

Thanks for any help. I really want to go in here at least once. Mky princess:

The ride itself doesn't actually move that much....If you can handle IMAX movies than you'll be allright! There is a little bit of a "take off" which is in the darkness....but you'll be fine!

Actually I don't like the IMAX vista type movies, they bother me. When they do the "sweeping" views. :confused3 I'm not worried about the ride part, just the combo / movie part. :earseek: And how disney handles it if someone does get sick. How embarressed am I going to be?

I'm sure the disney has cleaning people on hand for such circumstances. But it sounds like you plan to be ultra prepared with a bag of your own. Honestly, most attractions/rides have loud sound systems so if you get sick into a bag, it's likely that not many people will know :) And even if people notice, you're not likely to ever see them again ... unless there's a DISer next to you and posts:

"has anyone ever seen their ride neighbor hurl?!"

But seriously, give it a shot! You'll never know unless you try it. And you might not forgive yourself for missing it :goodvibes

Imax theatres have always given me huge problems with motion sickness but Soarin' didn't affect me at all. It was a beautiful experience and I never had to shut my eyes once. Please give it a try.

just curious if you got sick on Mission space? my husband got really sick on MS and am wondering how he'd handle soarin ( not too good at China either sometimes, he can take it but sometimes not)

I did ok on MS but it is definately weird "feeling" follow the rules of MS! They are not to be mess with. :3dglasses Have been in there 3 different times and its an experience not to be missed but my sister only has done it once. I didn't feel dizzy or nauseated only intense pressure.

Good luck, Mky princess:

Mission Space completely did me in. I had to go back to the hotel and lay down for 3 hours before I felt normal again. I also have trouble on Body Wars and Star Tours. Some of the IMAX movies bother me if I have to stand up.

However, Soarin did not effect me at all. In fact we went on it about 9 times in 4 days! I loved it!

what do you think made the difference...hubby followed all the ms "rules" ( i warned him over and over, nag nag nag) but he didn't take dramamine which he should have but i wonder why soarin would be different. do you not have the same moving "stomach in the throat" feeling you get in some imax movies and ms? ( personally i like that sensation but think it's what gets him sick)

I am very sensitive to those kinds of visuals too. Believe it or not, I get dizzy looking at satellite images on my computer...so I know the feeling you are talking about. We are going to WDW in September and I will give Soarin a try.

I posted this info on another thread, but maybe it will help you. I swear by e Less Drowsy Dramamine. I take it everytime I go to WDW or USO. In the past I never get sick, but I do get dizzy, queazy, uneasy on my feet from all the "input" of different rides..simulators, speed, illusions...etc.

I start taking Dramamine the night before we get to WDW. I take it at night and every night until we leave. It works for 24 hours and by taking it at night you will not feel drowsy at all. It also really really works without any side affects. I can go on any ride, simulator, whatever and not get that "feeling". It has really made the biggest difference....I no longer have to close my eyes. For years I had this awful feeling and sometimes it took me hours to recover. Since I love going on rides, it was a real pain in the butt.. Not anymore.

if interested, Dramamine Less Drowsy formula is an over the counter drug, and can purchased at any drug store.

I think for me it was the fact that it was a very gentle ride and not closed in at all. It's not very long in duration either. Probably the worst part is at the end when you are gliding over a city at night. But the ride is almost over by then.

It's an uplifting ride and it doesn't have all the "in your face" warnings, etc., that seem to raise my anxiety levels before I even get in line!

Dramamine probably wouldn't hurt though, if you think you need it.

We went to WDW at the end of June, and I was soooooooo worried about getting sick on Soarin', because I have vertigo. But I took the chance and did fine! It was well worth it - it was my favorite ride! I did get a lil bit green twice, but I glanced away from the screen and at the other riders for a moment and the feeling passed. Good luck!

:confused3 But I don't get a big nausea, stomach in the throat area feeling on rides, or even when I get car sick. I just start getting that movement feeling. Like you keeping going forward...... ... Kinda like a wave / ocean type feeling? Then all of a sudden I know I am going to hurl, and not much warning, very fast.. Seems like if we rent disney's boats and enjoy them out on the lake, or spend too much time in the pools I get the same thing too. Way to much movement. Helps if we fly and not drive from Illinois. :earseek:

I get motion sick pretty easy, no Body Wars or Star Tours for me!! But this is my favorite ride at California Advetnure. There is hardly any movement with your seat and there are no big hills or dips, you are just gliding through California. It is really peaceful and nice. If you do start to feel sick, close your eyes as there is not much of any real movement. They also have "wind" blowing in your face the whole time. You cannot miss this ride :p
