Motion controlled A/C...how do you keep it on at night??

Just as my title says...how can we keep the motion controlled A/C on during the night when no one is moving around?? We are all "hot sleepers" in my family, and there have been many nights where we wake up hot and sweaty because the a/c shut off.

Any suggestions??

Looks like you are staying WL? We did not experience the a/c shutting off in the middle of the night...we often woke up freezing, so I would guess they don't have that.

There are ways to bypass the settings on the ones that do though...it's been posted before, I'm sure someone will post it again for you. :thumbsup2

I've also seen where people tie balloons in strategic locations and then turn the fan on, so that the balloon moves around and keeps the a/c running.

To adjust the temperature, follow these instructions: On the thermostat, push the power button and the down arrow (button that adjusts the temp) at the exact same time. If you do this correctly, you will see the letters "bp" where the temp normally shows. You are now bypassing the sensors in the room. You can then set the temp to whatever you want and it keeps the room that cold whether you are in it or not. You might have to do this once a day as the thermostat tends to go back to sensor mode after 24 hours.

Balloons sound like a good idea, so I guess we should pack a small fan to keep it moving. We are staying at AoA, and from what I see on other's reports, the A/C is motion controlled there. I totally get the energy savings aspect of it, but still selfishly I sorta wish there was a way to override it at night.

awhile back someone posted the following directions (I wrote them down)

Press/ hold F/C button on left side....once "b/p" appears its on override.

Haven't tried this method yet but we're staying at AoA in a month .....

That sounds MUCH easier than using a balloon!!! Thank you :thumbsup2

Yes, thank you; I am very worried about our environment, but I get severe heat stroke due to a medical problem (it happened on my last trip) and it is a real danger to me. I've been very concerned about this. These two suggestions make me feel much safer.

not all do that and if they do we ask as we like it cold to sleep or we would have to be moved

What resorts have this?

I don't know all of the resorts - but it's definitely the newer resorts. I understand it's at AoA, and I can confirm that it's at Kidani @ AKL (we stayed there last year and had this problem). I'd venture to guess it's at BLT, and any resort that's been updated recently.

Good call! We did this at CSR

Thanks to all who posted the bp options. This would be a big problem for me if I didn't have the bp at night.

Last year I stayed at the Contemporary and wke up sweating every night! This year I am staying at POR do they have these there?

I have never noticed this in all the years of staying at Disney resorts! Sometimes we get cold at night, but never has it gotten warmer.

Unless they've changed the AC during the last refurb, they still have the wall unit that you set at a coolness yourself.

I believe only CSR of the mods has the new central air system.

Edit: I just looked at some of the renovated "Royal Rooms" and they still have the AC unit under the front window, though they dressed it up pretty nicely.

Same here. We sleep with a fan on every night and we've never been uncomfortable at Disney World. Trust me, after going through "the change" this year, I would definitely feel warm and I haven't. Not sure what others are experiencing but we've always been fine. And my brother-in-law, who sweats when the sun first appears, didn't have any problem there. Even without his ever present personal fan right next to the bed.

When I stayed at BCV in a studio, there wasn't a power button. Just the up, down, and a toggle button for heat/AC/fan. I couldn't get it to bypass and my room did get warm. That's the only thing I'm not looking forward to next month.

When I was at WL in May, they did not have motion thermostats. The thermostat was in the entrance hall, so it wouldn't have been able to read the motion in the room anyway. The room stayed cool all night.

We have been in rooms where there was an issue at night with the a.c turning off and no hints on the boards worked. I called maintenence and they came and bypassed the system for us. I find it unacceptible to pay to sleep in a hotel only to be awakened all night long because I am not moving enough for the a.c sensor to know I am there. I get that it is an energy saving thing, but that should be limited to during the day, not when guests are trying to rest.

We've encountered this problem in most of the rooms we've had at WDW. None of the suggestions have worked for us - just unlucky, I guess. I hate waking up again and again due to sweating!

When we were at HRH & PBH this past May, we called Star Services and asked if they had a fan. They did, and we slept well the whole trip. I guess I'll ask at our YC/GF rooms on our upcoming trip.

:headache: We'll be at AoA for a night and Kidani for 5. Wonder if THV is the same? We'll be there for 5 nights too.
