So what are you doing or getting mom for mother's day. Every year I pick my brain to try and come up with something special for mom. I have a very practical mother and this year I have yet to come up with a special gift for her. So what is everyone doing? Please share!

This year we leave for WDW on Mother's Day so I'm giving my mom a card on the plane one from my boys and one from me and my brother. My bro and i booked her a pedi spa treatment for SS halfway through our trip. My bro surprised me and added the ressie for both my mom and me. :cloud9: So in the card I'm gonna tell her about the spa treatment.:)

In past years....I made her a special small x-mas tree to hold only her fav ornaments, which she collects a certain kind. I decorated the tree with ribbons and even bought a little tree skirt for it.:santa:

Another year we surprised her with a special BINGO night (she loves bingo), the whole family went with her to her reg game, my dad, my bro, and me. Granted it was like watching paint dry for me  , and my dad kept complaining that he's not a potato (doesnt have 20 eyes, cause of how fast they read the numbers..), my mom loved it thou.

You can also do the standards..dinner at a nice restaurant, flowers sent to her door, a special trinket she had her eye on, a box of candy.;)

Good luck and let us know what you go with!:flower3:

Mom gets mad at me when I buy something really expensive, and this is the first year in a while I haven't been able to make something special. Last year I made her a DVD on my computer of photographs of the two of us (and sometimes DB and DF) from the day I was born to the present set to music. She cried. I still remember that.

This year, I think she's just worried about not getting Mother's day because I graduate college the day before, and my cousin is being Bar mitzvahed the following weekend, so I know a lot of our relatives will be paying attention to us. I'm planning on going to the pool with her and just letting her relax (ie. getting anything she needs and trying to keep annoying people away) plus, I bought her a small crystal candle holder and a really pretty smelling candle to go in it.

My Mom is one who hates us spending money on gifts. According to her, " She buys everything she needs."

This year I got her a half dozen of those reusable grocer bags from my DS.
It was a cheap gift but I know it will be useful and she is going to love them.

Other gifts my mom has loved in the past were wind chimes, a flowering shrub for the yard, and aprons.

My Mom is older...remember noone knows their Mom better then the children. You will come up with something simple and useful for her.

Good luck brainstorming!

I ordered photo notepads with pictures of the grandkids on them from Walgreens for my Mom. Anything with grandkids is a usually a hit. I think I am doing books for my MIL, since she already has the notepads from my SIL:rotfl2:

My sister and I splurged and bought our Mom a new purse. My mom went to visit my sister (lives out of state) and they found themselves at the Coach outlet. Luckily they were having a sale on top of the outlet prices and we split it between the 2 of us so it wash't too bad. She deserves it though... she's had a really tough year (medically) so we would have bought her whatever heart desired!

I ADORE my MIL, but she is REALLY tough to buy for. And she's one of those people that gets mad if you spend any money because she'd rather have her basement cleaned out, or her garden weeded, or her fence painted. So we'll do whichever chore she picks for us and that'll make her happy. I'm sure we'll give her a gift card too, but I don't know for where yet. She LOVES TJ Maxx, so maybe there...the only problem is that she usually ends up using the gift card to buy a "special surprise" for the person that gave her the gift card.

I'm also going to the craft store to get 2 stepping stone kits so my son can make one for each Grandma. I liked this one http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayProductPage?productNum=gc0377
because you could put little pictures in it. We made one for my husband for Father's Day last year and it came out great.

My mom loves to sew, crotchet, knit... So, I got her some thread, some pattern weights and a book of patterns (that I can borrow)!

For my mil we got her a gift certificate to her current favorite restaurant. She goes there often with her best friend. She lives in another state so it is sometimes hard to find her something she wants.

In the past I have also made mini-scrapbooks of my daughters for both of them, gift cards to favorite stores, flowers, chocolate basket (The popcorn factory does great backets!)

I am getting fabric from my dd's and from hubby I am getting a perm!

I like the following:

kiva.org

charitynavigator.org

My mom is practical and not into "stuff". I tend to make donations in her name to groups she approves of and she's happier with that than pretty much any gift I could get her.

Thanks for your ideas :cool1: keep 'em coming! I have a couple of sentimental ideas myself that I think mom might like, but I won't tell until I make a final decision. I like your ideas and have checked the websites. Thanks. I love new ideas  Tell more! Tell more! Please :goodvibes

I got my mom/MIL digital photo keychains. I preloaded the pics on there (lots of all the kids, grandkids, etc) so that they can carry them with them and brag whenever they run into a friend, etc.:thumbsup2

DD painted flower pots for them and picked out some daisy seeds for them to grow. (We have to ship out of state or we would have planted them ourselves.)

A Vera Bradley bag for Mom and 2 perrenials and 2 garden cherubs for MIL. Now to start brainstorming for Fathers Day!!!!
